Bringing Ms. Tayama to life this time was all about channeling that effortlessly languid, streetwise coolness. To match her character design, I went with a striking vibrant red short wig, trimmed with blunt bangs and elongated sideburns to flatter the jawline and lock down that sharp 2D look. For makeup, the focus centered on the eyes and lips: reddish-brown circle lenses paired with deep crimson matte lipstick against a fair porcelain base, crafting a cool, detached visual mood.
For the wardrobe, the inner layer was a form-fitting white short-sleeved bodycon mini dress under a glossy black Leather jacket. The leather jacket works best when worn half-sllipped off the shoulders, casually draped to exude that nonchalant, rebellious edge. A black leather choker with a metallic O-ring encircled the neck, while sheer black Stockings paired with white chunky-heeled mid-calf boots featuring metal buckles completed the lower half. The stark monochrome contrast not only adds bold visual punch, but the stockings also smooth out bodily silhouettes and visually elongate the leg lines.
We specifically scouted shooting locations around the Supermarket back door and curbside vending machines. To channel her iconic smoking moments, I held a prop cigarette throughout. The nocturnal lighting was captivating: warm ambient spill from the supermarket threshold, the icy cyan glow from the vending machine buttons, and neon reflections from the distant avenue together formed rich mood lighting. The photographer captured varied perspectives—perched on concrete steps looking down into the lens with crossed legs, leaning casually against a utility pole gazing directly forward, and quiet over-the-shoulder back angles pondering a drink selection. My favorite remains the shot against the pole: chin tilted slightly upward, eyes wandering with unhurried detachment just as the night breeze caught the red strands.
Balancing in chunky white heeled boots while maintaining tight posture throughout standing and seated frames was physically tiring on the core and lower back after hours on the pavement. But seeing the cool chiaroscuro glinting across the leather, along with the crisp contrast between the black hosiery and white hemline, made every effort hit the mark. While not an excessively ornate outfit, through curated styling and location immersion, I aimed to convey Ms. Tayama's nonchalant, edgy aura.
