Today, I shot a set of Angelic Bear Lolita photos in a Tuscan-style estate. The print on this dress features vintage bears and European-style architecture, with an overall color tone of creamy apricot, and the print details on the hem are extremely exquisite. I chose it because it retains the sweetness of Lolita while adding a touch of classical and retro tone. The cut of the dress features a high-waist design, decorated with straps and bows on the chest, making it very forgiving for various body shapes. Since it's a sleeved style, I paired it with white lace sleeve covers, which not only added a sense of layering but also prevented the arms from looking too monotonous.
For coordination, I chose a white lace soft hat with ribbons, and a light gold twintails wig, making the overall color tone echo the dress. In terms of makeup, I emphasized the softness of the eye contours and chose a daily-wear bean paste lip color, striving to present the exquisite feel of a vintage porcelain doll.
The shooting location was chosen as an estate with a pool. Outdoors was the evening blue hour, while indoors was a warm-yellow vintage tea room. When shooting by the pool, I used the water's reflection and the distant lights as a background, standing sideways to let the dress's print fully show, and slightly raising my hand to focus the visual attention on the lace and hands. Indoors, I borrowed white porcelain tea sets and a kerosene lamp as props—drinking tea, looking down at the cup, and walking around while holding the lamp. These lifelike actions filled the frame with a sense of storytelling rather than deliberate posing.
For Lolita photoshoots, my experience is that the match between props and the environment is very important. For example, holding a vintage camera or dried flowers in a vintage room gives a much better pictorial feel than just standing there. In addition, lighting is the key to great photos. In low-light environments, you need to look for light sources, such as the warm yellow wall lamps in the tea room or the landscape lights by the pool. Positioning the subject slightly toward the light source makes the face look more three-dimensional.
Because the hem print of this Angelic Bear dress is relatively complex, the accessories on the upper body are kept as simple as possible—a single cross necklace is enough. For footwear, I paired it with white long stockings and low-heeled Mary Jane shoes, unifying the overall style.
We shot this set of photos for a little over two hours, from sunset to dark, and enjoyed the entire process. Because two of us shot together, helping each other adjust dresses and discussing poses, the shooting atmosphere was very relaxed.
In fact, Lolita fashion doesn't need to be restricted to fixed patterns. Finding a cut that suits your figure and temperament, paired with makeup and styling that fits the scene, allows you to take great photos. This vintage estate trip truly showcased the romantic retro feel of Angelic Bear to the fullest. I hope to find more distinctive buildings and natural landscapes in the future, bringing these pretty dresses to different places.
