For these Convention photos, I experimented with a completely different black patent leather Bunny girl look. Because the material is highly reflective patent leather, shooting indoors under ceiling light arrays proved to be a major test of lighting control. Light creates noticeable reflections on the black bodysuit; without finding the precise angle, it easily turns crushed black or blown-out with glare.
The single-leg standing pose glancing back over the shoulder in the first photo looks simple, but actually demanded significant core strength. The body had to lean back while keeping the leg lines elongated, pointing the toes while standing on one foot, which also brought out the texture of the White stockings under the lights. To achieve this angle, balance was repeatedly adjusted on site to ensure I wasn't pushed to the edge of the frame and the composition stayed full.
The second photo captures the instant of walking forward while holding a wooden tray facing the camera. This was a candid snapshot: balancing the wooden tray prop in hand, stepping in a lunge with toes touching down, head tilted slightly with mouth parted, capturing a dynamic instant. This photo carries strong visual tension, requiring high control over character expression.
This outfit was extremely sweltering at the convention—patent leather has virtually zero breathability—and combined with the dense crowd and long blue braids, I had to be careful not to brush against passersby while walking. The bunny ear headband had to be clamped tightly with clips to avoid falling off. The white collar, white gloves, and over-the-knee White stockings formed a classic black-and-white color contrast, standing out brilliantly against the cluttered background.
In terms of makeup, to suit the Bunny girl concept and strong lighting, the eyeliner and eye contours were deepened to maintain three-dimensional facial proportions under the convention's flat overhead panel lights. As these are convention shots surrounded by crowds and booths, maintaining intense focus amidst the noise required stamina and distraction resistance during Anime convention photography.
The accuracy of lighting placement dictated the final look of the patent leather. This shoot relied primarily on on-site overhead lighting paired with the photographer's softbox, identifying optimal reflection angles before setting poses to perfectly showcase the texture of the long legs in White stockings and the patent leather bodysuit. Post-processing mainly subdued highlights and refined the edges of the white stockings for cleaner lines.
Overall, this was a very intriguing photoshoot experience. The greatest charm of Convention photos is capturing authentic candid moments, shaping the atmosphere of Anime cosplay characters through props and body language. Despite the sweltering heat and tiring shoot, bringing out the intended texture through patience and attention to detail made this immersive styling process well worth documenting as an anime fan.
