[Castorice cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail — Night Elf in a Gentle Blue Sea of Flowers

When shooting this Castorice set, the glowing Blue sea of flowers at the location was truly the soul of the entire photoshoot.

Faced with such a fluorescent Blue sea of flowers, the primary consideration was how to blend the person into the environment without letting the bright background steal the focal point. Because it was shot at night, in addition to using the cool-toned light from the flower clusters, I deliberately added soft rim lighting around the subject, slightly lifting the white long hair and light purple dress out from the dark starry sky background. The translucent texture in the final images is largely credited to this on-site lighting approach.

However, when arriving on location, the challenges were far greater than imagined. The blue flowers in the field were truly beautiful, but they were also a true paradise for mosquitoes. Striking poses while enduring mosquito swarms was probably the most unforgettable behind-the-scenes experience of shooting this cosplay. The model, Teacher Youyou, was extremely professional, maintaining a steady demeanor to complete every pose despite being itchy from mosquito bites.

Speaking of styling, the aesthetics and accuracy this time were very satisfying. Teacher Youyou is herself an experienced wig stylist, and her handling of hair and forehead accessories was spot on. In particular, the elf ears paired with silver-white long hair captured that ethereal presence of a mysterious otherworldly character. I specifically picked an angle with a deep galactic background to enhance the aesthetic ambiance under the starry sky. The white sheer skirt had multiple layers; during the shoot, I had the model turn slightly to capture the flowing dynamics and layering of the hem, while the butterfly-shaped arm accessories added great flair to the overall look.

Among the selected photos, some feature interactions with the purple beast prop, while others are close-ups using flower clusters as the foreground. I especially love the close-up shots holding that bouquet—the tenderness in her gaze paired with the cool ambient light gives immense visual tension. Although summer outdoor shoots come with many hurdles like bugs and needing frequent makeup touch-ups due to sweat, capturing such an atmospheric scene makes everything worthwhile. The lighting effect of the flower sea in pitch darkness possesses great theatrical tension, and using light to create mystery is one of the reasons I love night photography. Despite mosquito bites all over, seeing the final imagery of wandering through the sea of flowers made this Meizhou shoot completely worth it.

During post-processing, I tried to preserve shadow details in the environment to avoid crushed blacks, while controlling the brightness of the blue blossoms within a soft range for a clear, translucent glow. The silver hair and purple-white outfit created a very clean palette. In Anime-style photography with fantasy elements, location choice is vital: the starry sky, glowing flower field, and purple dragon-like creature are crucial elements in building the worldview. Whether sitting among the flowers or interacting with props, I guided the cosplayer to capture that ethereal lightness. Of course, this also relied on the model's excellent on-camera presence, making many candid captures look natural. A glowing floral theme heavily tests a photographer's exposure control—ensuring subject sharpness while keeping the glowing flowers free from excessive noise.
