[Castorice Cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail, Quiet Light in the Deep Purple Flowers

The theme of this photoshoot centers around Castorice from Honkai: Star Rail, with costume and scene design focused on expressing the character's ethereal feel.

This white-and-purple dress outfit was actually repeatedly refined. The main skirt uses a structured white fabric to support the voluminous hem, while the outer deep purple patchwork layer is shaped like petals. The upper body features a strapless corset design, paired with a black choker around the neck to match the character lore. The sleeve cuffs use purple semi-transparent sheer tulle, combined with rigid white wrist cuffs; this purple dress look's layering is extremely rich under light sources.

The thorn flower crown atop the head is one of the highlights of the entire look. White and purple silk flowers simulate a thorny garland, and the large side bow provided great visual balance during the shoot.

The set design this time utilized a classic cool white-and-purple tone. The white Roman pillar bases and carved vases in the scene fit the story's ambiance very well. To enrich the composition, white lilies and pink roses were specifically chosen for flower arrangements as accents, while weeping branch plants added movement to the frame. A white fluffy carpet laid on the floor made sitting poses more comfortable while softening shadows around the edges. This setup not only highlights the character's temperament but also gives the entire studio an ambiance akin to a court garden.

During the shoot, what I was most satisfied with was the hand gesture design. The small glowing object resting on the fingertips created a contrast within the purple cool-light environment, building a visual effect that looked like actual spellcasting. Because the texture of light was emphasized during shooting, the lighting engineer specifically lowered the ambient brightness to strengthen this glowing point, and the effect was indeed quite stunning.

The version you see is the final retouched photos. To keep the frame clean, no watermark was placed in the center, preserving the original composition. The subject is centered in the frame without edge cropping, fully displaying the extension of the skirt and bodily posture.

When taking photos in this style, post-processing is actually crucial. Looking at the purple ambient light in the background, if early lighting wasn't sufficient, color cast could easily occur in post-production. This time we used blue-purple softboxes during the shoot combined with a touch of white rim lighting, so post-production only needed subtle adjustments to skin tone and sharpness. Additionally, for the small glowing object held in hand, adding VFX in post would look fake, so an actual physical prop combined with shutter speed adjustments was used directly. This provided realistic texture and made eye focus much more natural. Of course, the full outfit and makeup styling took quite a long time, especially wig styling which took nearly an hour; every detail had to lay flat to achieve the desired effect.

Regarding the composition of these photos, we tried our best to keep the character in the visual center of the frame, allowing the skirt to spread naturally with a well-executed overall sense of extension. The cool tones of the environment subtly echo the silver-white color of the character's hair strands. During lighting, special care was given to the light-dark cutoff lines at the headpiece and neck, ensuring that even with large areas of light colors, the frame wouldn't look flat.

The photoshoot this time turned out exactly as expected; environment, styling, and lighting complemented each other perfectly. Although the entire shoot was exhausting, being able to deliver this kind of visual texture made it feel completely worth it. Enjoying this cosplay sharing experience!
