This blue and white gauze dress paired with bright blue short hair styling forms the overall visual foundation of this Seiga Kaku cosplay. Choosing this shooting location was mainly due to the classical atmosphere brought by the wooden window frames and red maple leaves, which can blend beautifully with the Touhou Project elements inherent to the character.
In terms of prop preparation, I specially found a very textured long white pipe, as well as a red cloth strip with talisman characters written on it for the thigh. Although it's a single-sided red string, it acts as an extremely prominent highlight for the overall outfit. The costume as a whole is stitched from multiple layers of lightweight fabric, which unfurls naturally when walking and stacks into rich layers during seated shots.
During the shoot, photographer @WuyuRuoye was highly skilled at capturing light and shadow; the warm yellow ambient light beautifully traced the outlines of the skirt hem and hair strands. To coordinate with this side-sitting posture, I adjusted the angle of my arms many times to keep the pipe prop steady, which genuinely required some physical endurance. The white plush rug underneath added more softness to the originally dark wood floor, making the barefoot look appear much more natural.
Fan works of the Touhou Project series have always enjoyed massive creative freedom in the cosplay community. This Seiga Kaku look mainly adopts cool tones in its color scheme, paired with a warm-light background, creating a cool-and-warm contrast that perfectly matches the scene. During the shoot, I also noticed the calligraphy scroll in the background; although I didn't intentionally pose around it, as part of the backdrop, it certainly added a lot of cultural atmosphere, keeping the overall composition from looking too empty.
A lot of thought went into this look, from wig trimming to custom prop making. Costume designs for characters in Touhou Project often feature many small embellishments, such as the bead strings on the chest and patterns on the neckline; though they might not be perfectly clear in photos, the actual items are exquisite. Considering the character carries a touch of a wicked hermit's aura, I didn't opt for a particularly bright smile in my emotional expression, but instead maintained a relatively gentle yet slightly distant demeanor, attempting to restore her vibe.
Looking through the photos after the shoot, I feel the use of light and shadow in this set is highly atmospheric. This Han-element style can showcase a unique beauty within traditional style cosplay, adding a touch of fantasy-colored agility compared to authentic ancient costumes. Today's cosplay sharing is mainly to display the basic styling and shooting scenes this time, hoping everyone can feel the character's style of interwoven leisure and mystery as captured in this Anime-style photography set.
