Putting on this iconic red-haired wig and wearing the Sumeru cosplay dancer outfit woven with light blue, gold, and copper colors, I completely immersed myself in the soul of this Hydro character. This set is not merely a recreation of a Genshin Impact Sumeru character's external image, but an attempt to express resonance with the Hydro element through body language. To stay as close to the character as possible, the selected red wig features a bright, saturated wine-red hue. Styling the front bangs was crucial—it had to remain thick and neat without appearing stiff. Translucent blue contact lenses were specifically chosen to convey a clear, spirited gaze when looking into the lens.
Regarding attire, the golden neckpiece on the chest was a customized metal-textured accessory; to fit the body snugly without looking bulky, the lining thickness was repeatedly adjusted. The sleeve covers utilized a slightly elastic light blue satin fabric equipped with hidden snaps, preventing embarrassing slipping during broad or circular hand gestures. The metal hoops and horn-shaped components of the headpiece were the trickiest part of the styling; to avoid a cheap plastic look, multiple layers of matte gold paint were sprayed onto the parts, which were then anchored to the tiara with hot glue and wire, maintaining head balance through balanced weight distribution.
Great thought went into the shoot setting: dark blue backdrops formed a striking warm-and-cold color collision with sprawling sunflower clusters. This contrast not only highlighted the brilliance of blue Hydro light, but also echoed the vibrant landscape of Sumeru. During the shoot, a softbox was intentionally chosen to avoid blown-out highlights, preserving both the luster of light blue fabric and the reflective details of metal pieces.
Hand poses were central to pose design. To create a dance-like feel when casting magic, I fine-tuned finger spacing and wrist curvature to present a gentle, rhythmic motion akin to stroking water. The surrounding bright blue streams of light and scattering specks you see were meticulously composited in post-production. To ensure Water element special effects seamlessly aligned with movement, I first took clear base shots of body poses, then separately photographed hand close-ups for reference. In post-editing, particle light spots were layered around fingertips and cuffs, with motion blur applied to blue light ribbons, ultimately achieving a dynamic feeling of dancing with the waves.
Lighting conditions on the shooting day varied considerably, requiring fine adjustments from headpiece light reflections to sleeve stitching. Although tedious, recreating a character from Sumeru brimming with natural essence is truly the greatest joy of cosplay. For this shoot, I focused on the character's gentle temperament and bond with the Hydro element, striving for a clear and airy beauty in the imagery. Creative work itself is like sealing memories into a capsule; whenever I look back at these blue particle lighting effects paired with red hair and blue eyes, I can immediately recall the dedication and perseverance poured into achieving lens quality and character fidelity—a sense of focused satisfaction that remains irreplaceable.
