[Wcos] Arknights Thunder in the Azure Dream: Indoor Parking Lot Mirror Restoration

Simply recording makeup and hair selfies of this Thunder in the Azure Dream cosplay outfit in an indoor parking lot. The cool yet imposing temperament in the original illustration truly collides to produce a unique effect in reality with the help of this slightly sci-fi concrete environment and cool-toned lighting. In fact, while preparing this makeup and hair look, considerable effort was spent on the hair color highlights and headpiece details from the original artwork. The comparison in the picture also shows the visual connection between the real-life attire and the original illustration, with the overall hope of staying as close as possible to the character's intrinsic tone in this Anime cosplay endeavor.

Regarding outfit selection, the black jacket paired with red-and-white inner garments and gloves creates a very strong overall silhouette. Especially the red horn-like head decorations and black ribbon bow—these two elements cast shadows with distinct layers under backlit or shaded environments, so during shooting, I specifically sought spots where environmental light and shadow could be utilized. The view in the upper photo, blocking the face with a phone, focuses more on outfit presentation and action tension; combined with a mirror selfie holding a phone case with red and blue patterns, it carries a strong sense of character immersion. The lower photo focuses primarily on face close-ups, highlighting makeup details.

In terms of makeup, the red eye makeup at the corners of the eyes echoes the character's original design, while the white wig presents a softer silver-white luster under the parking lot's cool light source. Controlling gazes and facial expressions as much as possible, remaining unsmiling allows the character's cool sense of calm to flow naturally. Because the character setting carries complex experiences and a unique identity within the story background of Arknights, interpreting her aura through attire and demeanor was the most challenging yet interesting part of this attempt.

When shooting such a specific styling, one cannot rely solely on post-processing retouching; choosing lighting angles and camera perspectives beforehand is equally crucial for building atmosphere. Especially with perspectives like selfies or mirror shots, grasping the sense of distance between the lens and subject is essential to achieve just the right composition in frame. I chose to avoid overly flashy backgrounds, utilizing the parking lot's crisp geometric wall lines to make the jacket's tailoring even more visually striking. Although the middle original illustration was set against a cloud backdrop, in an actual indoor setting, similar artificial light sources and automotive/architectural lines can simulate a similar subtle sense of detachment.

Throughout the entire process, from hair and makeup to final atmospheric composition, the goal was to find a familiar connection between reality and the 2D realm. Every attempt at different characters and outfit styles serves as practice for self-expression and execution capability in hair and makeup styling, and the unique completeness of this Wcos outfit indeed suits this relatively restrained camera expression approach within the Arknights Creator Support Program.
