CPSP has come to an end! This time I didn't run around the venue but chose a semi-outdoor area to sit like a 'mushroom' all day, mainly to stabilize the tone of this Kanade Tachibana look. As a popular classic character in Angel Beats!, the white pleated dress, straw hat, light purplish-blue wig, and huge white wings can easily overexpose details under strong sunlight. Therefore, during the actual shoot, photographer Zeze Shark specialized in using buildings for shade, preserving the layers of the feathers and hair strands. Because the convention had a huge flow of people and this heavy wing outfit makes large movements difficult, I simply found a textured wall base to sit down. I thought this low-profile state might be ignored, but surprisingly many people came over and recognized the character, softly calling out 'Kanade Tachibana' or 'Kanade-chan.' That moment was truly touching, making me feel like an embodiment of everyone's emotional connection. Regarding styling restoration, besides the wig's trimming direction, the bouquet was chosen to stay close to the simple elegance in the original anime. The sunlight that day was fantastic; the backlighting hit the edges of the white wings, presenting a very lightweight surrounding feel, an atmosphere that's hard to simulate in post-processing. For postures, considering the wings' unstable center of gravity, I deliberately alternated between sitting and standing for composition, letting the big dress hem and the wings form a wide symmetrical visual to have an instantly recognizable outline in the photos. Shooting under a backlit environment is highly challenging, but the translucent light and shadow in the final photos beautifully conveyed that pure sense of power the character holds in Angel Beats!. The core idea of this set was to preserve this natural sense of 'finding stillness in motion.' Though I barely moved, being able to connect with fellow fans through this quiet interpretation of Kanade means the resonance has surpassed the character itself. Given the opportunity in the future, I will consider shooting another set of Kanade with different emotions in an outdoor natural scene.
