The 100km one-way coastline shooting mission departing from Tokyo has finally wrapped up smoothly. To fulfill my wish of shooting the white Seaside torii gate by the sea before graduation, I specifically chose this location. The entire shooting process was actually far more grueling than anticipated; despite dazzling sunlight, the coastal wind was astonishingly strong and bitingly cold. To align with the shooting angles, my shoes and socks were completely soaked by seawater shortly after arriving. Soaking my feet in icy seawater sent a bone-chilling sensation running straight through my body, leaving my toes numb all day.
This time, I chose the blue-and-white 'Ao Reimu' (blue Reimu) styling, whose oversized ribbon bow and wide sleeves showcased dynamic movement beautifully in the sea breeze. To capture the precise moments of waves crashing against the reef rocks and the skirt fluttering in the wind, photographer Master ddm tirelessly scouted angles. Because it was an intense backlit shoot, the atmosphere was peak, yet it posed a severe test for lighting and exposure. Standing on wet, slippery reef rocks in the freezing wind, I had to maintain my posture, keep my eyes from squinting shut against the gale, and continually adjust poses to the shutter speed. Huge thanks to the support crew who held props, fixed skirt hems, and draped jackets over me in the freezing wind—it was truly hard work.
As for the outfit itself, this costume is wonderfully flattering for leg lines in profile poses. In wide shots, the black leather shoes and white socks looked exceptionally textured against the wet reef, brimming with the distinctive visual contrast of Anime cosplay. Although the fabric was lightweight and clung to my body in the sea breeze, all that cold was temporarily forgotten for the sake of gorgeous photos.
Beyond the shoot itself, this trip brought a delightful little surprise: we happened to encounter an extraordinarily beautiful stray kitten by the sea, gazing curiously at us beside roadside railings with crystal-clear blue eyes. The candid snapshots of it turned out wonderfully, and looking at it made all the day's fatigue melt away.
Overall, this Seaside torii gate outdoor shoot was spent in a mix of shivering cold and pure joy. While the high-intensity continuous shooting and frigid seawater were exhausting, reviewing those backlit silhouettes and waves lapping at the skirt hem in the camera preview confirmed that every bit of persistence was worth it. Post-processing organization and detail polishing will take a little more time; I hope this Photography sharing set showcases the authentic colors and textures of this costume under natural light.
