[Anchorage Cosplay] Oriental Cheongsam Charm in Azur Lane

Shooting Anchorage's cheongsam look from Azur Lane wasn't a sudden decision, but a concept I had in mind right when I decided to cosplay her. I've always felt that Anchorage's slightly tsundere yet deeply sincere personality, when combined with traditional cheongsam attire, creates a magical chemical reaction—blending traditional oriental grace with her signature pure innocence. This photo set is one of my recent favorites, and after seeing the final edits and overall effect, I felt compelled to document the creation process.

Let's start with costume preparation. This cheongsam departs from traditional rigid forms, incorporating numerous modern modifications. A high standing collar paired with a deep-V halter design, outlined with golden piping, gives the overall silhouette a crisp, upright structure. Deep red floral embroidery at the chest serves as the visual centerpiece, contrasting against the black base fabric for an elegant retro feel. Detailed golden frog buttons at the waist add rich layering. The most distinctive feature is the ultra-high slit hem, paired with black lace thigh-high socks and garters (Black garter stockings), infusing contemporary trendy elements into her character design. We specifically chose elastic fabric with great texture and stretch so the outfit remains smooth and wrinkle-free across various poses.

For hair styling, long golden-brown straight hair with twin side braids are Anchorage's iconic hallmarks. To complement this black-and-red cheongsam palette, I custom-crafted hair buns (odango covers) adorned with dark red patterns. Trailing white ribbons attached to the hair buns added a flowing, dynamic movement. For makeup, I retained Anchorage's signature purplish-red eyes, pairing them with a clean base and eye-focused shadow to project a gaze that's slightly inquisitive yet filled with curiosity. Since her lore carries a touch of unknown hesitation and resolve, I avoided overly vibrant lip colors, choosing a soft red tone to balance the weight of the dark costume.

For location, we chose a traditional Chinese-style tearoom. Wooden lattice doors, landscape scroll paintings on the background, and ink stones on the table instantly built an authentic ancient atmosphere. We paid close attention to lighting during this Cheongsam photoshoot, utilizing warm tones to simulate soft afternoon or twilight indoor illumination. This light softened facial features wonderfully and, combined with the black-and-gold costume palette, rendered an oil-painting-like photographic texture.

The shooting process really tested emotional immersion. The line in the post description—"I've been waiting for Teacher"—was precisely the mindset we sought during the shoot. Within the set, the black folding fan in my hand acted not just as a prop, but as a trigger switch. The moment the fan opened or half-veiled my face, it helped me slip into character instantly. Sitting beside the low table, I imagined Anchorage listening intently or waiting for that special person. The photographer granted me huge creative freedom to discover natural seated poses. For instance, the pose in photo one—crossing my legs with the fan resting lightly—emerged naturally after reflecting on her state of mind. Despite eye-catching elements like garters and stockings, I focused on bodily coordination to maintain a tasteful, refreshing allure without feeling over-the-top.

In post-processing, we focused on color correction and skin optimization without drastic reshaping, preserving the raw atmospheric lighting and genuine facial features. Every time I finish a shoot and see my reflection merging with the character on screen, I feel all the prep work was worth it. This Anchorage cosplay creation was a fascinating experiment in character interpretation and costume fusion.
