[Blue Archive Sunohara Kokona Cosplay] Magical Girl Doujin Costume Photoshoot

The physical creation process of the Magical Girl Kokona doujin costume quietly began the moment I first saw that artwork. While retaining the character's original demeanor, this fan design incorporates beautiful magical girl elements, instilling an instant urge to recreate it. So I quickly contacted my long-term partner tailor @Kekesong. The moment I received the finished garment, I genuinely felt that the costume details were executed to perfection. The entire dress utilizes a drapes-well black-and-white striped fabric; the fine vertical stripes present a great sense of dimensionality under light without looking stiff. The neckline features a modified off-the-shoulder design paired with white ruffles, offsetting the heavy feel of black stripes while adding a touch of sweetness. The iconic bright blue bow tie on the chest was custom-made with an incredibly accurate shade, serving as the visual focal point of the entire dress. Another large blue bow adorns the waist, perfectly accentuating the waistline and making the overall proportions appear more elongated. The sleeves are designed with black arm sleeves that also feature white-trimmed ruffles to echo the hem and neckline, paired with pure white short gloves to instantly max out the refined Magical Girl cosplay atmosphere.

The lower half was paired with classic white thigh-high socks alongside black bow-decorated Mary Jane high heels. This combination of socks and shoes not only elongated the leg silhouette, but also cleverly acted as a visual transition between the black-and-white pleated and striped skirt, keeping the overall balance from looking top-heavy. The white band at the top of the socks contoured smoothly along the thighs, maintaining sleek line flow and reflecting the tailor's thoughtfulness in accessory selection.

For this photoshoot, we specifically booked a studio. Photographer @Arsenal's Little Martin really knew how to capture character tension against solid-color backgrounds. We used a light purple solid background paired with soft studio lighting to maximize highlighting the colors and textures of the outfit itself. During the shoot, to express a magical girl's airy lightness, we tried many dynamic poses—especially standing on one leg raising the magic wand high, and lifting a leg while looking back over the shoulder. These angles perfectly integrated the fluttering skirt hem, white thigh-high socks, and contrasting black shoes. The floating halo above my head and the star magic wand in hand were the soul props of this ensemble. During retouches, we deliberately retained the halo's subtle glowing effect and transparency, making it appear as if genuinely floating above my head.

After editing the photos at full speed, we obtained these 5 final shots. Although the shooting pace was fast, the quality of the final images exceeded expectations. Retouching focused on adjusting shadow folds in the dress and fabric textures, making the black-and-white stripe contrast sharper while preserving skin and sock textures. The overall styling achieved very high completion; the combination of black, white, and blue main colors fit the character while beautifully conveying the magical girl theme. This doujin costume was flawless in both tailoring and fabric texture, and the final results presented in front of the lens were the fruits of everyone's mutual coordination.
