Today, I served as the Shenzhen one-day store manager at the Viltrox experience store, taking the opportunity to shoot a Portrait photography series using the 135mm lens (F1.8). This vintage black-and-white Cat-ear maid outfit looked surprisingly stunning in person. A black blunt-bangs wig paired with a cat-ear headband edged in white lace, layered over a white high-neck ruffled blouse and black puff sleeves, offered an exceptionally solid, textured aesthetic. Soft floral accents and a circular badge pinned to the chest kept the ensemble from feeling monotonous.
During the shoot, I found this 135mm F1.8 focal length truly fascinating: the spatial compression is pronounced, and the bokeh transition wide open is remarkably creamy, cleanly isolating the subject from any busy background clutter. Because we were inside the experience store, photography gear and blue display boards filled the backdrop, serving as the perfect cool-toned counterweight to the black-and-white wardrobe. When posing with the quest card, I had to balance hand gestures with facial expressions. Tucking the chin slightly while gazing just above the lens gave the eyes a brighter, more spirited focus. Photo 1 features a playful pout pointing forward; Photo 2 showcases a warm professional smile holding the task card with both hands; and Photo 3 captures a hand touching the headband with a cooler, more composed demeanor. When adjusting poses, tilting the torso slightly away from a direct front-facing angle relaxed the shoulder and neck lines, preventing any stiffness.
Beyond posing for pictures, my role as the one-day store manager involved engaging with visitors and handing out quest cards. The outfit was surprisingly practical to move in, as the puff sleeves and apron never restricted arm mobility. Under ambient lighting, the white blouse and apron appeared crisp and immaculate, with the black skirt grounding the overall palette. The makeup intentionally accentuated the eye contours, using a rosy lip tint to brighten the complexion and drawing the focal point directly to the eyes beneath the straight-cut bangs.
This experience offered a fresh perspective on switching between wide angles and telephoto lenses for portraiture. The intense focus brought by the 135mm lens naturally commands attention toward the model's gaze and micro-expressions, making it far easier to capture authentic, candid moments. Standing before the camera holding the quest card with the mindset of guiding guests through store exploration added an engaging, interactive layer quite distinct from standard photoshoots. The lighting layout inside the space was wonderfully suited for vintage styling; combining overhead ambient fill with side-backlighting rendered every fabric fold and delicate lace texture with exquisite clarity. All in all, it was an immensely fulfilling one-day store manager experience—for anyone passionate about portraiture and costume styling, exploring diverse visual lens languages in such a professional setting is an absolute delight.
