[Silent Suzuka Cosplay] Umamusume: Pretty Derby—Experiencing the Purity of Running Amid the Track, Light, and Shadow

Putting on this white-and-green uniform and standing on a real running track, the sensation of the plastic track under my feet instantly put me into the zone. The theme of this photoshoot was very distinct: to combine the dynamic energy on the track with the character's focused, quiet, yet explosive aura.

First, let's talk about the costume and props. The design of this outfit is actually very sleek in reality. The white-based short skirt paired with the green-trimmed top features a sportswear cut that avoids restricting the body during runs, while the deep purple leggings beautifully complement the leg lines under the sunlight. The shoes are a pair of brown sneakers with white accents, which offer great grip on the road surface, making it easy for me to repeatedly try various movements. The hardest parts to adapt to were actually the long orange wig and the long tail prop behind me. While they look great when standing still, once I started running, the length of the hair and the weight of the tail required me to adjust my center of gravity, ensuring that wind resistance and dynamic movement wouldn't throw off my body's balance. This was the most challenging part of the photoshoot.

The outdoor set of photos was taken next to a building with vast green vegetation and white pillars. The sunlight was very intense at that time, making the boundary between light and shadow very distinct. Capturing dynamic moments under such lighting conditions really tests the coordination between the photographer and me; we needed to click the shutter exactly when a beam of light passed through the gaps in the tree shade. I struck a full-sprint pose with my arms swinging naturally. Combined with the fluttering hem of my short skirt and the long tail soaring into the air, the captured light and shadow under the intense light felt incredibly powerful. The white lines on the ground and the crisp shadows gave the frame a strong sense of geometry and order, perfectly matching the serious atmosphere of a real sports arena.

On the other hand, the photo of my back taken after running into the large stadium brought a completely different visual impact. Standing under the grand stands and white awnings, the surrounding space felt incredibly vast. The wide-angle lens fully captured the depth of the venue, creating a beautiful cool-to-warm contrast between the bright red of the plastic track and the massive white clouds in the sky. This scene didn't require any complex movements; just standing quietly on the starting line with my back to the camera, looking into the distance, was enough to convey the character's silence and composure on the field—never looking back at rivals, only focusing on the finish line. Although my face isn't visible in the photo, the posture and the negative space of the background left plenty of room for imagination.

For the choice of matching scenes, running along the roadside with staggered greenery and low walls also perfectly matched the warm-up vibe before and after a race. The low-angle shot in Photo 3 seamlessly connected the lines on the ground, the elongated shadows from the sunlight, and my movements. This perspective is particularly effective at highlighting the explosive power while running, while fully displaying the details of my leg lines and shoes. Throughout the process, I was very mindful of my finger posture; my fingers inside the dark gloves remained relaxed and natural while running rather than tensing up, giving the frame a sense of lightness rather than heaviness.

After completing this shoot, I understood even more the necessity of blending into the environment for this kind of outdoor anime recreation. Silent Suzuka gives me the feeling of a unique pace—never rushed, never anxious, just running every lap at her most comfortable rhythm. Therefore, during this shooting experience, I didn't intentionally chase exaggerated snapshots but rather immersed myself into that focused running mindset. Whether it was the lighting, the wind speed, or the choice of venue, everything became a crucial element of the artwork. I am very satisfied to have reproduced this athletic texture on a real city street and track. The entire preparation and shooting process itself was an absolute enjoyment and a sincere tribute to the character's spirit.
