[Dusk cosplay] World Within the Painting: Teal Smoke Swirling Around the Red Sun - Image 1

The set took Boss Yansi and me two and a half days to build, and the first photo from this set is finally retouched. Building the set was indeed exhausting: to capture that splash-ink teal smoke effect, we not only needed specific smoke machines but also had to repeatedly adjust fluid dynamics in post-production. The outfit is a blue-and-gold classical gown; to bring out the character's languid and aloof demeanor, the pacing of my movements and gaze had to coordinate with the surrounding smoke effects. During the shoot, we constantly adjusted the angle of the red sun prop to simulate twilight light and shadow. The longsword in hand had noticeable weight, so to achieve that weightless, floating posture in the photo, I repeatedly posed sideways in the middle of the set. Shooting bright floating elements in a dark environment tested the camera's dynamic range, but fortunately, Yansi took overall shadow details into account during lighting setup. The color structure of the final image is very intriguing—a sweeping, deep teal-green anchored by a touch of red. Since it wasn't a fully physical set, blending the edges of the surrounding smoke took some time to smooth out. Although the whole process was tiring, seeing the final image made all the late nights totally worth it. In fact, there were many details during the shoot: making sure the fabric folds followed the wind's flow, spreading out strands of hair as much as possible, and softening the light hitting the face. For now, I'm releasing this main shot first; over the next two days, I'll compile behind-the-scenes videos to break down the compositing steps for a few key visual effects.
