This Marisa Kirisame cosplay was shot in a studio recently, aiming to express that confident and slightly playful feeling of The Black and White Magician.
The costume design can be said to be the biggest highlight of this look. The black and white combination of the main color scheme is very layered. The huge soft hat on the head uses multi-layered black lace, tulle, and white ruffled edges stitched together. Combined with the star decorations along the edges, the brim looks very gorgeous from the front. To recreate the character's texture, the golden-yellow wig was chosen as a slightly fluffy long straight style, with the bangs trimmed relatively flat, and two braids hanging to the chest were deliberately woven on both sides, retaining the original hair color and long braid characteristics.
The upper body features a black short high-necked top, with a large area of white lace patchwork on the front placket and neckline, and the bodice is adorned with golden star appliques, looking very exquisite visually. The sleeves are the most exaggerated part of this outfit, adopting a style similar to water sleeves, but the cuffs are patched with black, white, and grey tri-colored mesh ruffles, which are heavily layered. During photoshoots, as long as the hands hang naturally or are slightly raised, the sleeves will form a beautiful water-ripple curve, which is highly eye-catching.
The lower body is paired with white lace-trimmed shorts, with golden star embroidery in the details to echo the top. A brown leather belt with a square metal buckle is fastened in the middle, beautifully separating the upper and lower body visually, which both recreates the clothing silhouette and adjusts the waistline proportions. For footwear, white calf-length socks and black chunky-heeled loafers were chosen. This combination weakens the delicateness of Lolita fashion and adds a touch of efficiency as An ordinary magician!
During the shooting process, thanks to the pure white background, the complex clothing details and the contrast of black and white color blocks were prominently highlighted. To break the monotony of the studio shoot, I tried several different states: there is the static posture of standing confidently with hands on hips to display the full outfit in Figure 2; the focused feel of squatting and pointing forward to simulate casting magic in Figure 3; and the jumping snapshot in Figure 4 with one leg raised, arms spread wide, using the unfolding of the ruffled sleeves to drive the dynamic movement of the frame. Everyone has a different understanding of Marisa, and in my interpretation of this look, I leaned towards being nimble, vibrant, and a bit casual. Although the clothes themselves have a heavy feel, through the movement design, I wanted to present the lightness of An ordinary magician! in the air.
The makeup this time also took some effort. The eye makeup deliberately intensified the red blending on the lower eyelids, paired with simple eyeliner and curled eyelashes, highlighting the anime eye shape and the upturned expression, making the emotional expression more direct. Being able to leave this set of character styling on a pure white background was a very complete shooting experience, and it better interpreted the unique style of this young girl magician in Touhou Project.
