The Event photo delivery for Meng 20 is finally out! This Chien Wu cosplay in a modified Qipao outfit made me so excited that I just had to share it with everyone right away.
The design of this costume is remarkably clever—building upon the classic high collar and structured silhouette of a traditional Qipao outfit while incorporating bold keyhole chest cutouts and off-the-shoulder tailoring. The retro blue-and-red interwoven prints, combined with an expansive white wrap shawl and floor-length ribbons, create exceptionally rich visual layering. The overall color palette balances traditional Chinese elegance with the character's signature captivating charm.
The short blue-black hair paired with a light blue flower hairpiece on the side was a personal favorite touch on set, softening the mature red-and-blue tones with a hint of cool serenity. The pearl necklace and the black folding fan in hand served as the finishing touches, making poses feel much more natural while capturing the character's calm, effortless grace.
As for the shoot itself, it took place inside a large indoor convention hall. The industrial metal trusses and bright overhead lights in the background initially made for a cluttered environment, but the photographer used a wide aperture to achieve the perfect depth of field, transforming harsh background lights into gorgeous bokeh light spheres. Meanwhile, incorporating a wooden high stool and a folding screen featuring traditional landscape paintings created a visually distinct classical space on site, sparking a fascinating collision between modern and vintage aesthetics.
To better highlight the outfit's contours and the character's presence, I chose a confident seated pose. The stool's height perfectly showcased leg proportions, while the combination of wide-brim lace heels and Black stockings modified leg contours and pushed the outfit's allure to the maximum. Keeping the skirt hem and long flowing ribbons neat required careful adjustments to folds and ribbon placement during shooting, but fortunately, the final photos turned out incredibly satisfying.
Speaking of accessories, the small side table with an incense burner and a blue-and-white porcelain vase holding plum blossom branches added incredible atmosphere to the frame. Moments like lowering my gaze with eyes half-closed or playing with the folding fan in hand fit the character's reserved yet commanding presence wonderfully.
The shooting atmosphere on set was super relaxed, and the photographer was very adept at capturing modified traditional style themes. Rather than harsh, literal lighting, the light-and-shadow transitions in this set are gentle and soft, complementing the textile texture of the outfit. For event photos from an offline convention, I am thoroughly pleased with both the outfit accuracy and the photographer's composition.
Selecting these two photos to share was driven by two reasons: first, the compositions are complete without feeling cluttered; second, these angles perfectly capture garment details, long legs in Black stockings, and prop embellishments.
