[Tewi Inaba cosplay] Rainy-Day Convention Photos of the Scheming Bunny from Touhou Project

This Tewi Inaba cosplay outfit was a ready-to-wear piece that I modified myself, just in time for a shoot in Guangzhou right before the Mid-Autumn Festival. Originally, the plan was to do a complete, formal photoshoot set, but on the day of the shoot, Guangzhou was hit by severe storms and torrential rain. Going outdoors became impossible, so we had to borrow a relatively large indoor industrial space, turning the session into a Mid-Autumn Festival convention photoshoot.

Because the shoot plan was changed on short notice, lighting conditions were rather limited. The venue was packed with photography equipment and staff moving back and forth, so getting clean backgrounds required constantly dodging crowds. We largely relied on the photographer finding tricky angles or using the natural light filtering through the windows for backlit shots, making the shoot tougher than expected. Wearing just this puffy skirt was actually quite chilly, but I pushed through it for the sake of the final visuals.

As for the outfit, I personally adore this style, so I hand-modified a ready-to-wear dress. The skirt is a tiered ruffle puff dress made of lightweight fabric that needs a petticoat to flare out into an umbrella-like curve when twirling or lifting the hem. The sleeves feature red ribbons and soft plush carrots, and the headpiece is a white tulle style with streamers that flutter dynamically whenever I move. Holding the giant carrot prop also added great energy, perfect for silly, cute, and playful poses.

The character setting of Tewi Inaba is known to be quite sly and scheming, so I made careful adjustments to my facial expressions. Poses like lifting the skirt hem while glancing back at the camera, jumping on one foot while raising the carrot, or tilting my head with a smirk while pointing to the side were all attempts to capture that balance of cuteness and subtle cunning. To bring out that mischievous vibe, I spent a lot of time refining my gaze and expressions, constantly reminding myself not to smile too plainly.

Also, here is some genuine advice for everyone: never stay up late before a photoshoot! I went to sleep very late the night before while packing props, and the next day my face was completely swollen—on camera it looked puffy like a mango, and facial expression control felt unnatural. I initially thought about retouching the photos heavily, but since these are convention-style photos, I wanted to preserve their most authentic state, doing only fundamental lighting and shadow adjustments.

This costume was altered purely out of personal hobby for fun, and it won't be rented out or sold. While it is a bit of a pity that we couldn't do the full outdoor set, it still left a wonderful Mid-Autumn Festival memory amidst the storm. I hope for better weather in future shoots, and I will definitely take this lesson about not staying up late to heart.
