[Sankarea: Undying Love cosplay] JK Girl Amidst the Endless Summer Hydrangea Sea

This official Sankarea: Undying Love cosplay set was completed amidst the Endless Summer Hydrangea blossom fields in Guling. The hydrangeas here span a vast area, dominated by blue-and-purple tones that harmonize impeccably with the character's detached, cool demeanor. For wardrobe, I prepared a purple-and-white sailor JK uniform—a white long-sleeved top paired with a purple pleated skirt and a bright blue ribbon tie across the chest. On the lower half, I selected over-the-knee Black stockings and black leather loafers; black visually flatters leg contours while introducing a dark, grounded contrast against the sea of blue and purple flowers, making the ensemble's dimensional layering pop.

In terms of hair and makeup, to align with Rea Sanka's character profile, I prepared a straight black wig trimmed with blunt bangs, accented on the left side with a pale blue four-petaled floral hairclip. The makeup focal point was reddish blending along the lower eyelids to channel that slightly melancholic, yandere-esque nuance, paired with a fair foundation base to elevate her fragile vulnerability.

During shooting, we encountered considerable challenges regarding natural light. The thick hydrangea foliage blocked substantial ambient daylight, leaving us shooting in deep shade most of the time. To make the subject and petals stand out from the dark backdrop, we set up a cool-white continuous fill light from the rear flank. The advantage of this setup was that as the light permeated the hydrangea petals, it endowed the blossoms with a semi-translucent, glowing texture while gently illuminating the deep blue ambiance behind.

Regarding composition, we explored multiple framing distances. Medium shots seated atop boulders with knees slightly bent highlighted the transition between over-the-knee socks and skirt hem, accentuating leg lines. There were also close-up shots half-crouched within the bushes—biting a leaf between my lips or holding a leaf across an eye. Biting the leaf served as a delicate visual prop to introduce subtle dynamism and interactivity to the static frame. Utilizing foreground hydrangeas with a wide aperture created a soft, dreamy blur that anchored the subject at the visual center, forging an immersive sense of being enveloped by a floral ocean.

Shooting up at Guling was quite an ordeal with plentiful mosquitoes in the brush, but the final cool-toned deep-blue aesthetic delivered striking visual impact. I particularly love the backlit translucency of the petals alongside the subtle, faint specular sheen across the Black stockings in shadow; the overall color palette remained remarkably unified, matching my initial vision for this set flawlessly. I hope these frames capture the poignant harmony between Endless Summer and Sankarea: Undying Love.
