The cosplay I'm presenting this time is Mutsumi Wakaba from Ave Mujica of BanG Dream!. This photo set doesn't chase extravagant sets; the main goal was to focus on capturing the character's nuanced presence and the fidelity of costume details. As a character in a band project, Mutsumi Wakaba inherently embodies a strong sense of detachment and introversion. Therefore, during the shoot, I subtracted as much from my facial expressions as possible, using my gaze to convey an atmosphere that is understated without feeling hollow.
First, let's talk about wig maintenance. To match the character's signature straight Light green hair, I trimmed the blunt bangs on this wig. The bangs couldn't be too thick, or they would obscure the expression in my eyes, so I thinned out the hair across the forehead and layered the strands along both cheeks so the ends would drape naturally. Before shooting, I applied wig conditioner and a touch of styling spray to ensure it looked silky smooth and frizz-free under studio lights.
For makeup, to create that pale, slightly unapproachable look, I chose a matte liquid foundation for my base and set it thoroughly. Eye makeup was the key: since I wore brown contact lenses, I used basic earth tones for eyeshadow to contour the lids, while the eyeliner only traced the inner waterline, deliberately avoiding any winging out at the corners to keep my gaze rounder, softer, and calmer. Blush was swept across a wide area of the apples of my cheeks to add a healthy flush and soften the overall cool detachment. For lipstick, I opted for a vibrant classic red with high saturation, creating a sharp color contrast with the Light green hair and white outfit, making my complexion pop on camera.
Regarding the costume, this short-sleeved white uniform contains plenty of fine details. The gray shoulder straps, the black ribbon on the chest, along with the gold buttons and metal badges on the side all had to be aligned precisely when dressing to prevent them from looking askew on camera. Because the outfit is pure white, reflections were a major consideration on set. The lighting technician used soft diffuse lighting to keep the white fabric looking clean and pristine while making my skin tone appear more translucent.
Many people think of Mutsumi Wakaba as taciturn and quiet, so while shooting this set, I did my best to suppress my usual instinctive smiles. The finger heart gesture was a spontaneous little idea during a break—originally intended to show a subtle gap-moe contrast, giving this character a slightly livelier state off-stage. The shooting process went very smoothly without relying on complex props; it was primarily shaped by subtle micro-movements and the controlled tension of my gaze. I feel the final result aligns closely with my personal interpretation of the character in this Anime cosplay.
