This set of Ruan Mei cosplay Convention photos was snapped in a commercial mall over the weekend. Because the character naturally embodies an elegant, reserved Chinese-style cosplay temperament, I chose a clean background to emphasize the main subject while utilizing indoor mall lighting to recreate that gentle yet aloof atmosphere from Honkai: Star Rail. The color scheme of this outfit has always been a personal favorite: the blue-to-black gradient along the skirt hem paired with the aqua-blue corset top, layered under a white draped shawl, creates rich visual depth. When walking, the airy fluttering of the skirt hem aligns seamlessly with the artistic mood I sought to convey.

In terms of accessory details, the pearl necklace and gemstone pendant around the neck played a major role in brightening the overall styling. To match this dress, I specifically selected deep-blue opera gloves with gilded accents along the trim, which look exquisite and textured without being plain. The white floral round fan held in hand was custom-made, featuring delicate printed details on the fan face and cascading emerald-green tassels; lightly swaying it in hand helped me immerse into the poised demeanor of a classical lady. Although props were few, these accents significantly elevated the overall completion of this cosplay.

Thoughtful adjustments were made to the makeup as well. Since my natural eye shape is round, I elongated the eyeliner at the outer corners and paired it with light blue contact lenses to craft a bright yet subtly cool gaze. Adding soft pinkish-purple diffused blush around the outer eyes and cheeks gave my complexion a fairer, translucent radiance, softening the distance brought by the cool-toned garments. The peacock-blue streak in the black hair is the soul of the look; this colored strand against porcelain skin faithfully captured the character's traits in Anime-style photography. To ensure natural hair layering, I styled the wig ends with a curling iron before heading out to achieve soft, subtle waves.

We explored several angles and poses during shooting. Holding the round fan allowed for semi-veiled poses to evoke mystery, or letting it rest naturally at my side while slightly tilting my head to reveal a tender expression. Since we were shooting in a public area of the convention with heavy foot traffic, nearby booths, and passersby, the photographer used a telephoto lens to compress the background. Combined with on-set fill lights, this cleanly bypassed cluttered surroundings and isolated the subject in the frame's center, while soft background bokeh warmed up the mood. The shoot took about two to three hours; the photographer's mastery over lighting was truly professional, with backlighting in select shots casting a hazy glow that added vitality to these otherwise static Convention photos.

Naturally, shooting Convention photos at conventions inevitably brings unexpected hurdles—such as passersby wandering into frame or sudden shifts in light—but that captures the true authenticity of convention shoots. I personally enjoy finding a moment of quiet composure amidst the noise of the crowd, much like the character's unruffled elegance. Reviewing the details afterward, from the golden button ornaments on the garment to the fit of the gloves, everything met my expectations.
