[Luo Xiaohei cosplay] Sakura no Toki: Capturing a Fluffy Kitten on a Night of Blooming Cherry Blossoms

This time, I cosplayed Kuro from Sakura no Toki, with the overall tone being a dreamy interweaving of cherry blossoms at night and a Kemonomimi girl. Choosing to shoot cherry blossoms at night actually took a lot of courage because it relies heavily on lighting, but the atmospheric feel of the final photos makes it all feel completely worth it. Regarding this cosplay outfit, I actually made some alterations after receiving it. The original midriff-baring cut was a bit loose, so to make it look sharper on camera, I cinched the waistline a bit myself. The blue knot on the chest and the light blue bows on the cuffs are core elements that define the flavor of this outfit, so I made sure not to let them wrinkle during styling. The wig I chose is a very thin, silver-white long style. Honestly, this kind of wig is usually very hard to manage and tangles easily, but the sheen reflecting under the flash is absolutely amazing.

For Kuro's animal ears, I specially selected a pink-and-white gradient style, creating some depth against the white hair at the crown. The tail behind me is a rather fluffy style, which looks very dynamic when swung during the shoot. Since I've always had a huge soft spot for FAVORITE's game narrative style, the sense of security Kuro brings to people was actually one of the reasons I mustered the courage to challenge this character. That night, my photographer 'Little Martin' (who is a massive Arsenal fan) carried his gear around the park for ages looking for the perfect light positioning. He said that to match the vibrant white, red, and blue color scheme of my outfit, we needed a slightly cool rim light to separate the character from the dark background. The shooting process was actually very smooth. It was just a matter of constantly adjusting angles to let the white pleated skirt and red ruffles drape naturally in the frame. White over-knee socks can easily look gray under cool lighting, but fortunately, the final effect turned out quite clean.

The most unique part of this set of photos is actually the second image, which has a visual layout reminiscent of a game UI. However, for the cover, I still chose my single-person backward-glance photo because the composition is more stretched out, allowing the character's lines and the outfit's details to be seen more clearly. Shooting such a night-time cherry blossom theme has given me a deeper understanding of my hobby of cosplay. It's not just about wearing the clothes; it's about feeling the environment the character is in and the actions she would perform. Although Kuro is a kitten in the story, her emotions are very delicate, so I tried to keep my expressions cool yet warm during the shoot. Looking back at this set, I'm indeed very satisfied. It has both the romance of cherry blossoms and the playful touch of a kitten. Besides the classic white, red, and blue, the outfit's color scheme is adorned with many small lace and bow details, so it doesn't look monotonous on camera. Every time I finish a cosplay, I gain a new appreciation for the work I love. Just like the world of Sakura no Toki this time—although the shoot is over, the feeling of the character will linger for a long time. The outfit's texture, the coordination of the setting, and the play of light and shadow have all turned into concrete images under the photographer's lens.
