Today's Grinning Professor cosplay is a style I have wanted to try for a long time. In Blue Archive, she has always been one of my favorite unreleased satellite characters, and I finally got the opportunity to bring her into reality. To match the mature feminine aura of the smiling professor, I did a lot of homework on the overall styling presentation.
For the wig, I chose fluffy blonde big waves with blunt bangs, paired with pinkish under-eye blush and emerald green contact lenses, creating delicate, doll-like facial features. The outfit is a black long-sleeved coat worn over a dress featuring white lace trims along the hem. The large red bow and golden emblem on the chest serve as visual centerpieces, while black gloves and a black beret dial the dark vintage aesthetic to the max.
The shooting location was set in a highly atmospheric vintage library studio, where dark wood bookshelves and a deep green button-tufted leather sofa served as excellent backdrops. In this ensemble, Black stockings are a crucial component. For posing on the sofa, I deliberately tried crossing my legs or resting barefoot on the cushions, utilizing light and shadow to accentuate the stockings' texture and leg contours. The blue gold-foiled hardcover book and the black walking cane topped with carved gold details were pivotal props that completed the frame. With them, whether holding the book across my chest or adjusting the beret's brim with one hand while resting the cane across my lap, an effortless, languid, yet composed presence emerged naturally.
In terms of expression management, I refrained from deliberately cute gestures. Instead, I relied on a calm gaze directly into the lens paired with a subtle smile to stay true to the character's smiling yet unfathomable nature. The warm-toned studio lighting was fantastic, and collaborating with the Dream Maker Dimension Photography Studio went seamlessly. The lighting skillfully cast beautiful highlights across the blonde hair and stockings, with sharp contrasts elevating the overall texture of the images immensely.
Being able to interpret a beloved character to this degree in reality leaves me very satisfied. From garment tailoring details to prop textures, down to the set dressing of the scene, every aspect was restored with utmost dedication. Looking at the frames captured in camera, I truly feel that mature composure was successfully brought before everyone.
