[Kiriko cosplay] Overwatch Kiriko Sailor Suit Convention Log

Today at Firefly ACG Expo, I debuted this JK uniform version of Kiriko. Many people might associate Kiriko primarily with her slightly rebellious, mystical ninja persona in the game, but putting on a sailor suit gives her a wonderfully strong everyday slice-of-life charm.

The sailor suit is a classic white short-sleeved top with a navy blue collar and cuffs, trimmed with white striped lining along the edges. The bold red bow tie at the chest is the visual centerpiece; tying it took quite some time to make sure it sat three-dimensionally without tilting. To capture the character's defining traits, I wore an emerald green short wig. The iconic tuft of upward-pointing hair on top was carefully shaped and secured, with the edges softly trimmed to look naturally fluffy and avoid that stiff, overly synthetic plastic wig look. The bangs and wisps along the temples were also lightly set with hairspray to flatter my face shape.

For the lower half, I paired it with a deep navy pleated skirt bordered with two white stripes. Black stockings and black loafers are the quintessential staples for this JK uniform aesthetic; putting them on visually elongated my leg lines and brought forth an authentic school-day ambiance. Although the shoes were brand new, the leather was very soft, so after walking around the convention floor all day, they didn't pinch or blister my feet at all.

While shooting, for the first shot I sat on a white folding chair with legs slightly parted and hands clasped between my thighs, leaning my torso subtly forward—aiming to convey a quiet, somewhat contemplative mood. In the second shot, I stood up with one hand on my hip, holding the silver prop knife in the other. Although the prop looks sharp, the tip is actually rounded off smoothly, though posing with it near my neck still required careful angle adjustments. The blade features a subtle cartoon graphic decal, which was a neat little highlight. Standing with feet turned slightly inward matched the character's casual, relaxed everyday posture.

Lighting at the convention was rather intricate, with round industrial lights overhead and large softboxes with grids set up nearby. The photographer used a wide aperture to beautifully blur out passersby in the background, keeping the focus sharp on the subject. During shooting, I kept my facial expressions subtle; the eye makeup featured soft pink tones paired with green contact lenses to deliver a clean, crisp, and dewy finish before the lens.

This cosplay experience went very smoothly—the tailoring of the uniform and the comfort of the wig were both top-notch. As an everyday-style look, this sailor uniform was comfortable and easy to move around in, whether roaming the convention floor or shooting in a studio. Cosplaying demands real patience: from choosing the outfit to styling the wig, every single detail needs careful consideration to achieve the best look on camera. This shoot wrapped up successfully; while looking forward to the final edits, I also cherish this lovely everyday moment.
