[Takanashi Rikka Cosplay] Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions — Halloween Limited Tyrant's Eye

This Halloween-themed shoot happens to fit Rikka's whimsical chunibyo setting perfectly. Right at the planning stage, we decided to integrate plenty of festive elements into the set, such as jack-o'-lanterns, spiderwebs, and vintage tea sets, hoping to create a spatial atmosphere that feels both mysterious and slightly playful. Weather and environment actually have a huge impact on photo outcomes, but fortunately, the indoor lighting arrangement yielded a very ideal texture in the end.

Regarding this styling, we spent a long time fine-tuning the details. The pointed, wide-brimmed hat on top was given an exaggerated curve and paired with red ribbons—not only recreating the character's iconic silhouette but also adding a sense of holiday ceremony. The black strapped top and purple ring collar create visual layers, while the long glove on the left hand and the white bandages wrapped around the right arm serve as core elements of the chunibyo setting. For eye makeup, to recreate the character's heterochromia, different colored contact lenses were paired for each eye, complemented by slightly deepened dark shading around the eyes to instantly catch the audience's gaze in front of the lens and bring out her distinct temperament.

The shooting process was actually very interesting. In the first shot, I chose a slightly reserved expression, holding the brim of my hat and quietly cradling a small pumpkin, driving a vibe of appearing aloof on the outside while actually brewing a grand scheme in my mind. Shifting to the second cover photo, I adjusted my posture on a rattan chair, winking and gesturing with my hands to instantly release the character's playful charm. The small white rabbit figurine, tiny teapot, and tea cups thoughtfully placed beside the chair added a touch of everyday life to the entire scene, which also balanced out the sharpness of the witch look, making the final photos feel less cold and more like a whimsical fairytale.

For the scene's lighting, the photographer offered very professional advice. Warm orange light was primarily used on the left to illuminate the pumpkins and tea set, while a beam of cool cyan-green light was cast from the back right as ambient fill light. This strong contrast between warm and cool tones fits the fantasy-yet-everyday theme of Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions exceptionally well, adding spatial depth to flat photos. Shooting is more than just pressing a shutter; it requires constantly adjusting movement angles in front of the lens. Sometimes an offhand glance or minor gesture captures a much livelier image than a deliberate pose.

As Rikka's cosplayer, it's not just about matching the makeup and costume, but more importantly feeling that unique inner emotion of longing to be special and understood. Standing in front of the camera in eccentric attire with exaggerated props is the true charm of cosplay. Through this Halloween cosplay photo set, I hope to display both the chunibyo and cute sides of this character while ensuring every detail stands up to close inspection. From the choice of clothing fabrics to the placement of various props, everything serves as a way to pay homage to the original work and character. Hands-on recreating and interpreting such a classic 2D character is a deeply immersive and joyful experience in itself.
