The finished official photoset of W from Arknights in her Qipao styling is finally ready to share. Extensive pre-production went into the details, making the entire journey immensely enjoyable, and I'd like to share some thoughts behind this shoot.
The outfit selected was a deep brown satin Qipao, whose lustrous fabric texture translated beautifully on camera. The halter neckline, side cutouts, and crimson accents infused a sharp edge into classical elegance. To stay true to character traits, I paired it with black leg garters, red stiletto heels, silver armlets, and a black choker. Colliding modern, sultry elements with a traditional Qipao heightened visual tension and expanded creative posing freedom. The white beast tail and scarlet horn accessories served as crucial anchors, with their angles repeatedly calibrated alongside hair and makeup to look optimal in every frame.
The location was an atmospheric classical Chinese interior featuring dark carved wooden benches, crimson folding screens, white plum blossoms, and celadon vases. Sunlight filtering through wooden lattice screens cast luminous highlights across the backdrop and plush rug. Given the dense color palette of the setting, the photographer tailored the lighting to accentuate facial definition and skin texture, keeping the complexion fair and radiant.
Throughout the shoot, I utilized the wooden bench for versatile poses: leaning sideways to lengthen proportions with leg contours and garter accents, lying prone on the rug looking back over the shoulder from a low vantage point to convey languid ease, and crossing my legs on the bench while holding a black folding fan with a direct gaze into the lens. The session felt like an exercise in refining presence and posture, balancing sensuality naturally through core control and nuanced eye contact.
The overarching palette relied on rich tones of red, brown, black, and white for striking visual impact. Beyond simply donning the costume, I wanted to merge classical heritage with the character's signature edge. Subtle gesture refinements and tight-cropped compositions brought out three-dimensional depth, capturing a seamless fusion of traditional scenery and modern aesthetics.
