[Seed cosplay] Zenless Zone Zero: Pink Shopping Cart & Neon Lights

This photoshoot for Seed from Zenless Zone Zero was primarily captured within a pink-and-purple neon backdrop. The white techwear outfit features an enormous amount of detail—distressed pants, staggered silver buckles, yellow webbing straps, translucent fabric patchwork, and mechanical gloves accented with orange fingertips—all of which pushed the gaffer's lighting skills to the test. Going barefoot without shoes or socks made the floor feel freezing, yet it granted much greater freedom for dynamic movement. The central prop of the set was the pink shopping cart; sitting inside required keeping my back upright at all times to elongate my leg lines while maintaining facial expressions, making weight shifts in such a cramped space a true test of muscle control. In the background, vintage CRT TV screens flickered to life alongside the pink glow of a neon 'GAMING ZONE' sign, layering together to create a dense retro arcade ambiance. Rather than a conventional aloof standing pose, reclining playfully inside the shopping cart better highlighted the character's lively personality. Suspending my arms mid-air was exhausting because the mecha gloves were quite heavy, requiring shoulder strength to keep them steady. Several rounds of exposure tests were conducted to balance the intense pink-purple light pollution. To complement the cybernetic feel, skin retouching deliberately preserved natural pores and texture rather than relying on overly smoothed filters, emphasizing that unique blend of mechanical edge and youthful charm. Under the neon lights, the white fabric took on a subtle violet-pink sheen, with metallic buckles reflecting sharply against the tangled wires in the background. We also switched to several challenging crouching poses to capture the folds of the trousers and the layered depth of the techwear straps. Logistical prep was exceptionally thorough—arranging the prop cables alone took over an hour—and the live shooting experience was fantastic, with red and blue lights casting gorgeous shadows. The resulting photos, from lighting to expression, brim with an intricate retro arcade vibe. Translating a 2D character into a three-dimensional reality through practical sets and props delivered very satisfying results, making this one of my favorite recent works.
