This time shooting the styling of the black-and-white magician, a lot of time and energy was truly spent on preparing the costume and props. This outfit is from Takenaka Tamako's brand; the overall silhouette is very crisp, and the black-and-white vertical striped corset design not only fits the body shape, but the golden buttons on it also add a lot of texture. The layered white lace trims at the neckline, chest, and cuffs, matched with the large black wide-brimmed hat, present a vintage yet exquisite Lolita doll style. The hat's size is quite large, and the black netting on the edge and intricate lace ruffles need to be manually shaped and tidied up every time I move, so that the layering photographed comes out distinct. The wig chosen is a light golden-brown, specially styled into twin braids with blunt bangs, hoping to better flatter the face shape while getting closer to that playful yet slightly mysterious temperament.
The broom prop in hand is definitely the centerpiece of this shoot. It's not simply a wooden stick shape; the handle portion is wrapped with vines, green leaves, and light purple and light pink flowers, and a vintage metal miniature birdcage hangs from the curved hook at the top of the broom, with white lace and ribbon decorations added to the tail end of the broom as well. This prop actually carries a substantial weight in hand; during the shoot, one must maintain the posture while paying attention to center-of-gravity balance, otherwise the movements easily appear stiff. To match the visual impact of this styling, the scene chose a strong contrast of a pure white background and a pure black platform, and the solid-color environment can wonderfully concentrate the visual focus on the subject and the complex costume textures.
Picture one chose a forward-seated posture with legs hanging naturally; this angle can wonderfully display the details of the White stockings and the cross-straps of the black ribbons, and the black platform Mary Jane shoes on the feet also added to the overall vintage heavy texture. When shooting, relax the shoulders slightly and gaze straight into the lens. Picture two added a small action of gently resting the chin, making the overall atmosphere appear slightly playful. Picture three utilized a black vertical partition, poking half the body out from the side; this composition added some narrative feel and a mysterious aura.
In reality, wearing such a bulky hat and long skirt, coupled with heavy props, is a test of physical strength and endurance. Every time I adjust my posture, I have to be careful that the vines on the broom don't snag the lace of the outfit, so the range of motion needs to be precisely controlled. The makeup leans toward the texture of a BJD doll, emphasizing the depth of the eye makeup and the translucency of the base makeup. During the shoot, strong light hitting a large area of white lace easily causes highlight clipping, which requires paying attention to light control during shooting to preserve the rich details of the clothing. Being able to completely present these details and seeing the final photos makes all the prior hard work entirely worth it.
