In my summer shoot schedule, this Endless Summer photography project for Sankarea: Undying Love was placed at the absolute top of the list because the time window is extremely short, perfectly capturing the hydrangeas when they are at their fullest bloom. The location chosen for this shoot was Dongguan Xiangyu Baihuayuan. Even though I knew beforehand that the hydrangea field was large, I was still completely awed by the mountain slopes of purple, blue, and pink interwoven flower fields when I arrived on-site. The towering flower clusters were almost as tall as a person, naturally creating a secluded and romantic photography space.
The outfit prepared this time has a very high level of accuracy. The purple sailor collar and white top perfectly match the refreshing vibe of summer. Together with the small blue bow hair accessory and her iconic red eyes, I almost immediately got into character without needing much adjustment. To match the character's style, I specifically wore black over-the-knee stockings, which beautifully elongated my leg proportions in the frames while creating a striking color contrast against the ocean of flowers—making it extremely photogenic.
Since the sunlight was exceptionally bright on the day of the shoot, the photographer, Chenguang Star, prepared a long-handled transparent umbrella as a prop. This umbrella was not only a practical tool to block the harsh light but also the core of the image's atmosphere. I particularly love the shots of me squatting in the flowers holding the umbrella with a green leaf in my mouth—it's a perfectly frozen moment of coolness blended with a touch of melancholy. The subtle halo refracted by the transparent material under the strong light made the colors of the entire image look much softer and smoother.
Personally, I think the most brilliant composition in this photoset is on the white hollow-carved bench. The white bench stands out beautifully in the middle of the purple-blue ocean of flowers. Sitting on it or lying down casually, the combination of black stockings and the purple pleated skirt looks both studious and carries a touch of lazy fragility. The photographer was incredibly patient when finding angles; to avoid stepping on the delicate hydrangeas beneath us, we repeatedly adjusted our positions within a tiny patch of dirt, sometimes crouching very low, and even lying down in the flowers to capture high-angle shots. The multicolored blossoms spread out beneath me like a natural velvet carpet.
The most challenging part of this shoot was actually the temperature. Although the visual of the Endless Summer hydrangeas feels very cool, the southern outdoor climate was already intensely hot and muggy. Wearing a uniform and a wig with straight bangs, I started sweating at the slightest movement during the shoot. However, precisely because of this authentic summer physical sensation, the photos instead captured a perfect touch of mild fatigue and relaxation, completely free of any forced, stiff poses.
Aside from the umbrella, the only other prop was the fresh hydrangea bouquet in my hands. The real flowers are so full of life; just holding them casually naturally creates a beautiful foreground blur with a sense of layering. The photographer also utilized the white umbrella we brought to block out part of the frame as a foreground for several close-up shots. Even though only a portion of my body is shown in these frames, this highly atmospheric composition makes them look more like cinematic film stills.
We are both highly satisfied with the final photos. The sunlight, the sea of flowers, the uniform, the black stockings, and the transparent umbrella—all these elements integrated perfectly to recreate that tranquil, healing, yet slightly aloof state. There is only a tiny window of time each year to see such flourishing Endless Summer hydrangeas, and being able to bring this character into such a scene during this season is the absolute best reward for our summer expectations.
