[Saigyouji Yuyuko cosplay] Touhou Project: Moonlit Stroll in Gensokyo

For this Saigyouji Yuyuko cosplay shoot, plenty of preparation was poured into everything from set design to costume selection.

The outfit featured a light blue dress with dark blue pleated ruffle trim along the front placket and cuffs, finished with a high white lace collar. The headpiece was a light blue mob cap lavishly adorned with white lace. To match the character's design, I wore a pink short bob wig with blunt bangs, focusing makeup on the eyes with red contact lenses, aiming to convey the mysterious, ethereal presence unique to a ghost spirit.

To craft an atmosphere true to Touhou Project, we built an indoor classical set. The backdrop showcased a giant luminous full moon framed by white floral branches and cascading wisteria. We incorporated faux-antique tiled roofs, carved wooden latticework doors, and translucent oiled paper umbrellas to enrich the visual depth. The floor was layered with a white plush throw, allowing me to sit comfortably on it.

During shooting, I put a lot of thought into pose design. Because Yuyuko possesses a distinct aura of elegance and leisurely grace, I avoided overly dynamic movements. While seated on the rooftop, I experimented with resting the folding fan gently beneath my chin or raising it high to veil half of my face. The folding fan served as an exceptional tool to guide the viewer's gaze while infusing classical charm into the frame.

The leg framing is particularly worth mentioning. Wearing semi-sheer White stockings paired with a multi-layered tulle skirt, the seated postures and low-angle shots naturally accentuated the elongated lines of my legs. The airy tulle skirt draped effortlessly over the fur throw, creating a weightless visual as light filtered through the fabric. Being barefoot also introduced a relaxed, unguarded ease, reducing the stiff feeling of posed shots.

For lighting, we maintained a cooler overall ambient tone to echo the moonlit night theme, while adding warm fill light from the front-side to keep facial contours crisp and skin tones natural. Localized light sources from the wisteria and stone lanterns contributed extra depth of field. Although the metallic chains, tassels, and 3D floral appliqués on the dress were quite intricate—requiring constant vigilance to avoid tangling during poses—seeing their textures come alive under the light and shadow made all the tedious preparation worthwhile.

The entire shoot was a wonderful, immersive experience; from selecting garment fabrics to arranging each tiny prop in the set, every detail drew me closer to Saigyouji Yuyuko. Capturing this vision in such a tranquil moonlit setting within the world of Gensokyo was truly satisfying, and I hope everyone enjoys this visual presentation.
