An outdoor shoot in torrential rain brought a distinctive, immersive experience to this Moriya Suwako cosplay. Throughout the session, high shutter speeds were paired with quick timing to freeze falling rain streaks, while color grading emphasized deep greens to contrast the purple garments, allowing the subject to stand out crisply against the lush Mori-kei vintage style environment in Anime-style photography. The lotus leaf prop proved tricky to handle in the pouring rain—wet and slippery, holding it with one hand required balanced strength to avoid snapping the stem while coordinating the flare of the skirt. Fortunately, after several rounds, I found the optimal balance of movement. Because the dense foliage kept ambient light dim, the photographer used off-camera flash to ensure my face remained luminous in the rain. For makeup, subtle dewy highlights were applied to match the character's ethereal essence.
Standing barefoot on wet surfaces and mossy stone steps demanded caution; finding solid balance was essential for executing graceful water-kicking motions. The brisk chill beneath my feet was exhilarating, deepening my connection with the natural elements. As the shoot progressed, the skirt absorbed water and grew heavy, yet when spinning or lifting a foot to send water droplets flying beneath the broad green lotus leaf, the mystical aura felt spot-on in this Rainy scene photography piece. Due to location limits, wrapping up meant rushing to change into dry clothes, but seeing the data safely backed up left me deeply satisfied with the rain-drenched character fidelity.
Preparation focused on maintaining makeup and styling stability in the pouring rain, embracing the synergy between cosplay and raw nature. Another hurdle was pose choreography—striking an effortless, airborne posture while balanced on one leg required strong core control to resist water drag and heavy, soaked fabric. Before each shutter click, the lotus leaf was repositioned to prevent cast shadows from compromising clean facial lighting. The thick fabric displayed prominent folds when wet, which lent an evocative narrative depth. The barefoot aesthetic against mirror-like water reflections brought vibrant life to the frame, embodying the character's indigenous, nature-bound presence. The photographer's framing left space for falling raindrop trails, injecting dynamic tension into the composition. From initial location scouting to wiping water droplets off the lens between takes, every detail shaped the final outcome. I hope this share conveys the enchanting atmosphere of shooting in the rain.
