For this Saigyouji Yuyuko Anime cosplay from Touhou Project, tremendous care went into expressing every detail of the wardrobe. The garment features an intertwined blue-and-white color palette with subtle lavender jacquard patterns along the skirt body. The white lace ruffles across the bodice and shoulders are multi-tiered, while the crisscrossing white openwork ribbons across the chest, accented with deep-toned detailing, visually enrich upper-body contours. The high-collared lace choker contrasts against the off-the-shoulder ruffled sleeves, with blue ribbons and flounces at the cuffs draping fluidly along with each movement.
The headdress was a major focal point. That blue-and-white soft mob cap incorporated generous amounts of translucent sheer tulle and lace, embellished along the brim with ribbon-tied bows and light-colored faux blossoms. The short pink wig was trimmed to the perfect length, featuring straight bangs that cover the forehead without obstructing the eyes. For makeup, pink eyebrows matched the hair tone, paired with red-tinted contact lenses, winged eyeliner, and undereye highlights to make the eyes as strikingly expressive as in anime. A lustrous pink lip glaze completed the look, yielding a gentle facial demeanor that still conceals an elusive, enigmatic glint in the gaze. The dark folding fan in hand served as a wonderful interactive prop; holding its ribs against the pure white backdrop cleanly accentuated the cool blue-and-violet tones of the dress.
During shooting, the lighting was distributed evenly to highlight the tactile textures of the fabric rather than relying purely on heavy filters for mood. Restoring the character's temperament requires not only accurate costuming, but also poise and gaze. In my heart, Saigyouji Yuyuko embodies a composed elegance laced with a faint undercurrent of danger, perfectly echoing that apex-predator presence alluded to in discussions of the character. To capture her half-smiling, all-knowing composure, I fine-tuned the tilt of my shoulders and the contour of my jawline before the lens, deliberately holding the fan across my chest to provide a stable focal anchor.
Pink hair and a Blue and white Western-style dress can be quite demanding against a solid white backdrop, yet after dialing in lighting intensity and color temperature, skin texture and intricate lace patterns were preserved beautifully. From makeup and dressing to final shooting, the entire process demanded considerable physical stamina—especially cinching the neckline and corset ties snugly to keep everything sharp on camera. The final outcome is immensely gratifying; the styling carries such innate design strength that it needs no elaborate set, allowing straightforward compositions to convey the character's essence effortlessly. This is the finished Touhou Project work I poured my heart into conceptualizing and presenting.
