At this edition of The Idolmaster Only in Guangzhou, I chose to appear in Katsuragi Lilja's debut stage outfit from Gakuen Idolmaster. Slipping into this pure white ensemble truly gave me a weightless feeling, like being wrapped up as a fluffy white daifuku.
Let's start with the design nuances of this stage costume. The top is a white shirt featuring light blue gradient lace paneling, with clever hollow cutouts at the neckline and shoulders layered over black spaghetti straps. Combined with wide ruffled sleeves, every gesture naturally creates a relaxed yet ethereal visual effect. The lower half features a multi-tiered skirt, where outer light-blue tulle edged with white lace pairs with a silver waist belt, creating rich layering.
Considering this was for a Guangzhou Anime Convention setting and keeping the character's idol identity in mind, I specially paired it with platform high-top white canvas shoes and crisscross white leg straps. This offered both idol refinement and an extra dose of energetic mobility for running and jumping. For makeup, to align with the character's ambiance, I wore light blue contact lenses combined with clear, translucent foundation and naturally flushed lips, giving the overall visual a cooler, gentler appeal.
Special thanks to photographer @Bujiaomeigui for capturing this set. Given the strong ambient light at the venue, we intentionally utilized a backdrop combining gray-blue walls and wooden flooring, relying on natural light as the primary source with side accent lighting to capture bright, clear portraits. Throughout the shoot, I aimed to capture Lilja's gentle yet vibrant aura, experimenting with sitting, single-leg balancing, and hand gesture poses. I particularly love the single-leg stance in photo four—the lace-up shoes and luminous white skirt are frozen naturally in motion, conveying the lighthearted yet elegant tone of this stage outfit.
Wearing such an iconic initial costume at an anime convention is not only a tribute to the character, but also a process of re-exploring her true charm. I love incorporating detailed restorations into my cosplay, such as wearing that small light-blue braided hair accessory to echo the overarching blue-and-white palette. Although managing multi-layered voluminous skirts and wigs required constant attention while moving around the venue, every time I reset my posture for the lens, I could feel the character's original youthful vitality.
The final results of this debut stage outfit exceeded my expectations, successfully capturing the event atmosphere of that day. I hope this crisp, pure white look brings everyone a refreshing and airy visual experience.
