[Vivian cosplay] Zenless Zone Zero: Serene Waiting

Putting on this Vivian styling and freezing the moment of waiting for Lord Phaethon in front of the lens was a meticulous endeavor in character recreation.

Choosing to portray Vivian from Zenless Zone Zero, the initial focus was capturing the character's iconic visual traits. The long light-purple hair and crimson pupils form the core of the facial look. Once the wig strands were smoothed out and the pointed Elf ears cosplay accessories were attached, the character's silhouette became instantly distinct. A small mole was specifically added beneath the eye, paired with soft yet expressive eye makeup, giving the gaze a lively yet languid charm.

The Cosplay outfit holds quite a few details; wearing it properly requires managing the layered white top first. Both the shoulders and cuffs feature blue-and-white vertical striped ruffle splices, preventing the pure white fabric from looking monotonous. The silver buttons across the chest serve as a luminous highlight, creating a nice contrast against the fabric texture. There is a cutout design on the back, subtly revealed when turning sideways during shooting. The bottom is paired with layered black skorts, black pantyhose stockings, and black platform shoes, creating a harmonious color balance between the black-and-white palette and the purple hair.

For posing, I chose a half-squatting posture—resting my chin in one hand, slightly tilting my head toward the camera, while letting the other hand drop naturally to keep balance. This pose is particularly effective for showcasing the Cosplay outfit: it flatters the leg lines (especially the contouring fit of the Black stockings style) while keeping the white top and blue cuff edges neatly within focal range. The shooting venue offered ample natural light, and the shallow depth of field from a wide aperture separated the subject from the cluttered outdoor environment, keeping the frame clean and crisp.

In preparing this look, I paid special attention to securing hair accessories and balancing weight on the head. To maintain a natural curve, I spent time adjusting the transition between the black bow on top and the wig. The dropped, broad shoulder line of this outfit brings a relaxed vibe that resonates perfectly with the waiting mood I wanted to convey. I prefer effortless poses, and resting my chin while squatting naturally carries an unhurried, leisurely mood. When styling the hair, I kept the top full and voluminous while letting the sides and ends curl and drape naturally, achieving that fluffy, soft effect seen in the photos without looking top-heavy.

Whenever shooting an Elf ears cosplay with fantasy traits, the angle of the prosthetic ears directly affects both frontal and profile views. I deliberately checked the camera viewfinder to ensure the tilt looked natural from the side as well. As for the black layered skirts and strapped platform shoes, while they feel weighty in everyday wear, they wonderfully grounded the lightness of the upper body on camera. The white welt stitching on the soles added a touch of design flair, matching the dark metal buckles on the shoe uppers to enhance the shoe's texture, which was fully displayed in the squatting pose.

I believe great character portrayal goes beyond costumes and wigs; what matters most is conveying that character's unique state of mind in the moment before the lens. Through this squatting pose and gaze, I hoped to capture a tranquil mood filled with quiet anticipation rather than impatience while waiting for someone to arrive. After shooting, I habitually reviewed the costume details in the photos to check for any distortions caused by movement and made timely adjustments for subsequent shots.

The venue lighting was actually somewhat mixed, with blue canopy structures around; fortunately, when blurred into bokeh, they turned into a dreamy cool-toned background that provided a pleasing contrast to my purple-and-white outfit. For color grading, I preferred preserving the original color atmosphere without artificially crushing the background. Light-purple hair looks more translucent under cool lighting, while the red pupils are the visual focal point, so I carefully balanced their relationship to preserve character recognizability while maintaining overall image clarity and luminosity.

During outdoor shoots, a light breeze naturally lifted the ends of the wig, creating a soft halo around the edges of the long curly hair under backlight or side light. I made sure to retain this texture in retouching without over-sharpening, preserving authentic skin texture and fabric weaves. I also fine-tuned the color gradations reflected on the hair so the muted, desaturated light purple was accurately represented. I balanced skin tones and the white fabric in post, ensuring the whites didn't blow out while the complexion remained naturally translucent.

This Cosplay outfit provided a wonderful shooting experience; wearing layered white garments always evokes different emotional nuances before the camera. Throughout the shoot, I also paid attention to using lens focal lengths to highlight upper-body fabric textures and eye expressions while balancing lower-body leg presentation. As an endeavor centered on faithful character recreation, the entire process deepened my multifaceted understanding of Vivian—not merely replicating an appearance, but embarking on an imaginative, empathetic shooting journey. Finding a comfortable balance between personal expression and character identity was deeply fulfilling. Well-designed outfits often inspire a creator's artistic drive, which is why I remain passionate about challenging such roles.

Overall, this photoshoot was a very smooth experience. Complete costumes and props, a suitable location, and getting into the right mindset allowed me to focus on bringing out Vivian's effortless elegance, making it a thoroughly enjoyable shoot.
