Preparing this set of Frieren cosplay photos for the 3rd Black Dragonfly Anime Convention truly took a lot of thought and effort. For the shooting location, we chose the lawn outside the anime convention, stepping away from the constraints of indoor studios to directly utilize the evening blue hour to create a dreamy, ethereal atmosphere. Photographer NightDiva is exceptionally skilled at capturing this cool-toned serenity; we discussed beforehand that we wanted a translucent, clean, and airy visual aesthetic.
Regarding hair and makeup, the silver-white wig underwent meticulous hand-styling. To highlight the floral headpiece and the translucent elf wings on both sides, I styled the hair into an intricately tiered updo and wore light green contact lenses to faithfully restore the character's eye color. For makeup, a translucent base combined with subtly elongated eyeliner aimed to present a non-aggressive, cool serenity while retaining a touch of vitality. For the dress, I selected lightweight white tulle fabric; gold and silver chain accents at the neckline and flutter sleeve designs flattered arm lines, while the entire gown showed subtle soft reflections under the evening twilight.
Shooting took place under natural twilight, where soft evening light carpeted the lawn and surrounding woods provided a dark backdrop that accentuated the subject's brightness. The camera used was a Nikon paired with a 41mm focal length, aperture wide open at F4, shutter speed at 1/100s, and ISO set to 64. This combination ensured remarkably fine image quality at low ISO, while the wide F4 aperture smoothly softened distant trees and lawn into a shallow depth of field, highlighting the subject cleanly without background clutter.
In terms of pose design, I really adore the posture leaning slightly forward with my right hand reaching out toward the camera. Because the lens was close to the hand, the hand was completely out of focus while the face maintained tack-sharp clarity. This contrast of sharpness and bokeh naturally generated an interactive sense of inviting the audience into the frame, giving the photo a narrative quality beyond static display.
The daisy prop held this time, accented with flowing white ribbons, harmonized closely with the gown and wig, adhering strictly to a palette of white, silver, blue, and a touch of soft yellow without excessive colors. Shooting on-site at an anime convention inevitably involves passersby or environmental disruptions, but NightDiva worked swiftly and we captured this mood in no time. As a cosplayer, stepping out of noisy convention halls into natural light to capture the character's essence is deeply fulfilling. Although preparing props and makeup was exhausting, seeing delicate details in the final shots—hair texture, skirt folds, and overall cleanliness—made every effort worthwhile. This is the exact moment from the 3rd Black Dragonfly Anime Convention I wanted to capture, hoping to share this ethereal feeling with everyone through this cosplay photography work.
