[Youmu Konpaku cosplay] Fulfilling a Dream with Misaki-sensei's Version from Touhou Project

Designed by Misaki-sensei, this version of Youmu Konpaku from Touhou Project has always been a beloved character, and this particular design captivated me deeply with its distinct, gorgeous style. The moment I put it on, one of my two ultimate dream outfits in the cosplay community officially came true.

Let's start with the wig. This shoulder-length Silver-white wig features silky smooth strands, with bangs trimmed just right to cover the brow bone. Paired with a slender black headband, it instantly sets the tone for the character. The large bow on the right side of the headband serves as the finishing touch; its dark pattern combined with black tassels provides both a grounded Japanese aesthetic and dynamic grace. Regarding wig care, styling a blunt-banged Silver-white wig requires close attention to bang thickness and sideburn contouring. When putting it on, I adjusted the hair parting to fit my face naturally. Since the headband position is fixed, the center of gravity remains very stable once worn without shifting around. The black tassels attached to the bow possess wonderful drape, swinging naturally as the body turns.

The upper body design is exceptionally eye-catching. The inner layer consists of a pure white shirt with wide flared ruffled sleeves; the rich layering at the cuffs makes the arms look graceful while framing arm lines beautifully. A patterned large ribbon tie in dark tones sits at the collar under a dark green vest-style skirt body, creating rich structural depth. Dark green chest lacings are adorned with two pearl tassels—this pearl design is immensely captivating, gently swaying with movement to elevate the refined look. These colors collide to express both the boldness of Anime-style fashion and an elevated, premium garment texture.

The skirt hem is intricately designed and rich in details. Along the edge of the dark green main skirt, black lace and a layer of black tulle are spliced together, followed by a trim of white floral lace below. At the very bottom, a thick white ruffled petticoat lining peers through. This multi-layered splicing imparts a fluffy doll-like volume to the skirt while retaining Youmu's signature cool detachment. The overall silhouette tailoring is spot-on, preserving opulent visual volume without feeling cumbersome during movement.

Moving on to props. Photos 1 and 2 feature the black staff decorated with cherry blossoms, while Photo 3 captures the drawn tachi sword. Combining the sakura staff with the tachi aligns perfectly with character lore, embodying both sharp combat precision and gentle grace. Raising props or drawing the sword during shooting creates powerful visual impact. The prop color scheme harmonizes seamlessly with the outfit, with black and pink acting as vibrant visual accents.

For the lower half, I paired white ruffled socks with black thick-soled leather shoes. The combination of lace socks and black leather shoes is a classic in Lolita aesthetics, helping anchor the lower visual weight while visually lengthening leg proportions. This short skirt and short sock ratio suits battle-oriented anime girls exceptionally well. The white lace socks have ruffled seams that rest comfortably below the calf, staying securely in place without sliding down. The black platform shoes add height, satisfying Anime-style fashion proportions without causing fatigue during long wear. This style combines delicate girlish elegance with crisp agility; where similar character concepts often feel overly cluttered, this Outfit sharing neatly highlights leg contours, achieving balance between heavy layers and airy lightness.

As for wearability, the craftsmanship of this costume is solid and heavy—especially the generous fabric used in the skirt and sleeve ruffles, which maintains a crisp shape when worn. However, due to extensive layering, shooting in sultry indoor studios can be slightly challenging, but for perfect visual results, it is entirely worth it.

During the shoot, I found this outfit extraordinarily photogenic. The sharp contrast between dark green and white, grounded by black lace, creates immense ambiance even against simple indoor white walls and wooden floors. Whether standing still or executing dynamic sword-slashes, it brings out the character's true spirit.

Recreating Misaki-sensei's version of Youmu Konpaku brings me immense joy. As one of my ultimate dream outfits, I poured every effort into faithful restoration from makeup to accessories, gaining a deep appreciation for the cleverness of this garment design. As a fan of Touhou Project, interpreting a beloved character through my own lens is immensely fulfilling in itself—a genuine tribute to the character.
