[Nahida Cosplay] Sumeru's Dendro Element and the Wisdom of the Forest

Shot this set of Little Dendro Archon photos last month and finally sorted out the retouched pictures. For this shoot, we picked a Japanese-style studio with exceptionally transparent lighting where natural light poured in from floor-to-ceiling windows, making the whole space brilliantly bright. Because the goal was to convey the Dendro Archon's lively, lightweight feel, we didn't intentionally darken the environment; instead, we used reflectors to fill in soft light, creating a clean, airy visual ambiance filled with natural breathing room.

The wig part features a refined pale white-to-blue gradient fading into subtle mint green at the tips. To faithfully recreate character features, fitting the emerald green leaf accessory on top and attaching elf ears took quite a bit of effort. The headpiece was double-secured with pins and safety clips to prevent it from falling off due to large movements mid-shoot. For a seamless base makeup, I specifically applied a breathable matte foundation, paired with light green contact lenses to keep the overall makeup look soft and delicate.

The costume chosen was a lightweight sleeveless dress. Although the wide skirt hem had excellent drape, to keep the gold and green printed patterns from over-reflecting under strong studio lighting, the photographer had to constantly adjust camera positions and angles according to light shifts.

Honestly, this shoot left one major regret—before leaving home, I forgot my custom arm ring. By the time I noticed, I was fully dressed and made up, making it far too late to turn back. I felt a bit crestfallen at the moment, as prop completeness is paramount in Cosplay photography. To make up for this flaw during post-processing, I asked the photographer to create a visual transition using light and shadow on my arm while adding glowing star effects. Combined with floating particle light effects in the space, it didn't feel out of place at all. Although not a 100% perfect recreation, this unexpected workaround actually gave the photos an extra layer of mystical fantasy.

The shoot took place in the mid-afternoon when sunlight angles were ideal and relaxed emotions came easily. Personally, I really like the set of poses sitting on the carpet making a heart gesture—it conveys that youthful innocence paired with natural, approachable charm. The pose reaching out to grasp a bokeh light ring was meant to simulate interacting with Dendro and Agro elements in the forest.

The wooden swing set inside the studio was my favorite prop. Toward the end of the shoot, feeling a bit tired, I leaned back against the swing with my eyes closed to rest. The photographer quietly snapped the shutter, accidentally capturing an extraordinarily serene and cozy moment that perfectly revealed her gentle, introspective side.

From a technical photography perspective, the hardest part of this set was balancing highlights and shadow details. Aiming for a luminous, clear frame means the white outfit could easily blow out into a flat white blob without careful contrast management. Post-processing focused on reinforcing metallic textures and green paint accents while preserving the authentic natural light source ambiance from the raw shot.

Overall, despite forgetting a prop along the way, the final visual effect met my expectations. As a practical Genshin Impact cosplay endeavor, this experience reminded me to double-check gear the night before future shoots. This Chengdu cosplay indoor studio experience was fantastic, successfully conveying the Dendro Archon's healing warmth while serving as a great experiment in light and shadow control.
