The application for the 22nd Wuhan Dream Realm Anime Exhibition has started, and I have always wanted to shoot a satisfying set of official photos for this convention. Taking advantage of the opportunity of this independent anime convention tour, I decided to take out this Arataki Itto cosplay look from the game Genshin Impact for a proper shoot.
The costume details of this Arataki Itto cosplay are actually quite challenging. The tailoring of the sleeveless top and the purple inner layer at the chest heavily test the tailor's skill, while the armor and red straps on the legs add a sense of layering to the overall look. Especially the iconic red oni horns on top of the head—to ensure they don't look awkward or collapse when worn, I put a lot of thought into the internal support and fastening methods. The wig was also specially chosen to be full of volume, slightly fluffy, and carrying a hint of wildness. Paired with the two strands of white highlights on the forehead and the red facial makeup, I strove to make the overall appearance closer to the original character's wild, unrestrained flavor, while maintaining aesthetic appeal.
For the outdoor cosplay shoot, I specially chose a grassy slope in a park. This large expanse of green vegetation background is perfect for highlighting the darker tones of Arataki Itto's costume, while also bringing out a sense of vitality unique to the summer outdoors. During the shoot, the sunlight happened to spill down through the tree canopy, forming dappled light and shadows. The light naturally transitioned over my shoulder armor and bracers, forming an excellent light-dark boundary line, which largely saved the need for extra rim light during post-processing. I squatted on the grassy slope, leaning my body slightly forward with arms hanging naturally, capturing several candid moments with a strong sense of combat charging. At that moment, I truly felt like an oni warrior standing in the outdoors.
Although Arataki Itto's character personality is carefree and bears a touch of childish boldness, I feel that in daily life, I also have moments when I want to throw away all worries and restraints to bravely be myself. Putting on these clothes and wearing the horns seems to grant me the courage to "laugh out loud and express myself freely." Posing freely on the grass was indeed very joyful, though the outdoor temperature in Wuhan during July and August is indeed a major challenge. Wearing this rather thick cosplay costume plus a wig and staying under the sun for a long time makes it extremely hot and stuffy.
Fortunately, this outfit is mainly prepared for the July comic convention. Yes, it is this year's 22nd Wuhan Dream Realm Anime Exhibition. The exhibition dates are July 17th to 19th, located at the Wuhan International Expo Center. Currently, I have only applied for a one-day itinerary, mainly wanting to meet up and interact with everyone at the convention venue, and hoping to take some more interesting photos leveraging the rich scenery inside the exhibition. I heard that the convention venue will have the AC running, which is truly a massive blessing for us convention-goers wearing heavy costumes. The next step is just completing this independent anime convention tour application process.
I hope this set of photos packed with a summer outdoor atmosphere can bring everyone a refreshing feeling. If there are any details you want to know about this Arataki Itto outfit, feel free to chat in the comment section. Looking forward to meeting everyone in Wuhan this July to experience the lively atmosphere of the convention venue together.
