Looking back through this set of photos taken at a previous convention, it features my Blue Archive Kasumizawa Miyu cosplay look in a blue sailor uniform and white thigh-highs outfit. Back then, I spent a lot of time polishing the props and costume details before heading to the con. While the memories are still fresh, I wanted to share some thoughts on these convention photos.
First, let's talk about the overall styling concept. The blue sailor suit top is highly recognizable, with clean contrasting white stripes along the collar. The bright yellow oversized ribbon tie at the neck serves as the visual centerpiece, nicely blending the student vibe with her sniper persona. Around the waist, the black tactical belt and magazine pouches not only define the waistline as decorative elements, but also add the tough, rugged feel of tactical gear. The lower body features a white mini skirt paired with pure white stockings, and the black knee pad with blue accents on the left leg gives the entire look both girlish lightness and the combat tension of a character ready for action on a mission. Pairing a white thigh-highs outfit with sneakers makes walking around convention halls remarkably comfortable; stepping around in those white-and-light-blue color-blocked platform sneakers kept me from getting tired even after standing for long periods.
As for props, regarding the sniper rifle wrapped in white bandages, I specially bought white fabric and wrapped it bit by bit to recreate that battle-worn, field-dressed texture while ensuring grip comfort. Although the gun itself wasn't excessively heavy, maintaining various aiming and ready poses amid crowded convention conditions was quite a workout for the arms. Combined with the dark blue gradient wig with straight bangs, the red-and-white headpiece with white ears and green leaves, and securing the white spiral effect accessory representing comic dizzy marks, I spent a good deal of time in front of the booth making sure every accessory sat at the optimal angle.
The shooting environment was right on the convention floor, where sitting on that black metal high stool provided an excellent anchor for the composition. Choosing this camera angle and seated posture was intended to capture the character calmly waiting for a target during a sniper mission or catching her breath during a break. Crossing my legs naturally with one hand steadying the firearm and the other resting gently near my thigh, the posture didn't need to be stiffly forced; a slightly lowered gaze aligned much better with the character's reserved nature. The convention hall's overhead industrial lighting intertwining warm and cool tones, set against the blurred backdrop of booths and crowds, gave the entire set of photos an authentic live event atmosphere for this cosplay photography.
When cosplaying this character, I also spent a long time perfecting the makeup. To match her striking bright red eyes, I selected translucent red contact lenses paired with dark eyeliner to make her gaze sharper and more focused. This cool-toned blue, white, and yellow palette looks great under convention ambient lighting. Even though quite some time has passed, looking back at these candid convention photos still brings back that fulfilling feeling of meticulously adjusting hair, makeup, and props. Especially leaning the bandage-wrapped prop rifle beside the high stool against the visual extension of the white thigh-highs outfit, the final result fully lived up to my expectations.
These event-focused convention photos actually offer a livelier on-site authenticity than deliberate studio shoots. Navigating the convention hall with full gear and soaking in the surrounding chatter made it much easier to channel the character's nonchalant, quiet state. Near the end when fatigue started setting in, finding a slightly quieter spot allowed us to capture this set. The high stool and background tones in the photos nicely matched the slightly metallic, industrial vibe of the original lore; without overly complicated lighting setups, relying on the venue's diffused ambient light was enough to bring out the textures of the gear and clothing.
Looking back at the prep work for this styling—from sourcing the right material for the white thigh-highs outfit, ensuring the length proportions of the skirt and top, to checking the stability of the knee pads—every detail impacted the final visual presentation. Fellow cosplayers will understand that feeling: when the final result satisfies both the photographer and yourself, it's genuinely rewarding. Sharing these frozen moments now serves as an authentic record of the effort I poured into this Kasumizawa Miyu cosplay.
