[Asuna cosplay] Sword Art Online Knights of the Blood: Firefly ACG Expo Convention photo Record

I went to the Firefly ACG Expo to shoot this set of Asuna Convention photos, mainly to share the costume, hair, and makeup details of this look. This silver-gray satin maxi dress has great texture, but because the material itself is reflective, the complex ambient lighting at the convention significantly impacted the final shots. The top features an asymmetric midriff-baring design, accented visually by the red straps across the chest and the dangling thin cords. The elf ears are custom resin props that require professional double-sided tape to secure, alongside patient shadow blending around the edges; otherwise, they could easily look unnatural under high-definition cameras on-site. The wig was meticulously trimmed—especially the flow of the bangs and sideburns—to capture the character's original temperament. For makeup, the focus was on refining the eye shape, using light-colored contacts to enhance the 2D translucent feel, while a matte finish was used for the base makeup to facilitate soft skin post-processing. The challenge of shooting Convention photos lies in the cluttered background and heavy foot traffic, requiring quick capture during brief openings. Working seamlessly with the photographer, we used a telephoto lens to compress the background and avoided busy booths to achieve a clean background. To showcase the skirt's asymmetric slit design and leg lines, I adjusted my standing angle, slightly turning sideways and using hand gestures to soften the body silhouette. In post-processing, we mainly enhanced the highlights on the dress to restore the luxurious sheen of the satin and dimmed the background to make the subject pop. Skin retouching retained real skin texture, avoiding excessive smoothing that loses detail, while fine-tuning white balance for different convention light sources. The red ribbons on the top and the waist ruching served as wonderful decorative details that stood out brilliantly in close-up shots. The dress has a slim silhouette that felt lightweight and tailored while walking around the convention, with the long skirt drapery creating dynamic motion with each step, yielding fantastic atmospheric candid shots. The lighting on-site was complex; to ensure photo quality, we mainly sought even and soft diffused light, avoiding blown-out highlights on the costume from harsh lighting while softening facial shadows. Overall, this outfit performed excellently under flash. Before heading out, I carefully prepped the wig, shoes, and fabric pleats to ensure ideal moments were captured. Looking closely at the raw photos, even slight differences in the drape angle of the red cords created distinct visual impacts. We primarily shot two framing angles: a close-up to showcase the gaze and upper-body details, and a full-body shot to display overall outfit proportions. Here, I'm sharing these two raw shots along with simple post-processing insights, hoping to offer a helpful reference for anyone planning to cosplay this character.
