It has been a while since I finished shooting this Iochi Mari cosplay set from Blue Archive. The files had been sitting on my memory card, and browsing through them recently made me realize that while our rejection rate was quite high during the shoot, the final selected frames turned out wonderful. Strolling through the sea of flowers with a basket full of blossoms not only channels pure summer energy but also resonates perfectly with her gentle, caring personality.
Starting with the costume: this Ichiban Kuji version of Mari's outfit differs slightly from previous designs, crafted from a lighter, softer fabric. The white dress is adorned with ruffled trims and daisy accents, capturing Mari's signature aesthetic. Paired with the petite golden halo and fluffy animal ears, the girlfriend vibes are dialed all the way up. Although the long gown covers most of the body, the folds and flowing lines of the hem look stunning when caught in the breeze, creating great visual extension. Because of the strong wind on set, my hair and the fur on the ears kept blowing out of place, requiring constant readjustments—especially for those long strands, where we walked back and forth multiple times to capture the ideal dynamic flow.
To achieve a natural, luminous makeup look, I applied soft pink blush to convey a shy, sweet, and obedient charm. The shooting location was an expansive sea of yellow flowers. Under bright sunlight, the background became extremely luminous and risked overexposing the subject; thus, in post-processing, we preserved the pure crispness of the white dress while moderately pulling down background exposure to enhance tonal depth. Outdoor shoots like this heavily test facial control due to rapidly shifting light and squinting, but my condition stayed steady enough to capture several candid expressions I truly love.
The core of recreating this character lies in channeling her lively, soulful warmth. Mari is inherently gentle and enthusiastic, so I tailored my poses and expressions accordingly—such as leaning forward while holding the basket or casting an attentive gaze over my shoulder. For those who love this natural aesthetic, shooting outdoors in a flower field does wonders for elevating visual ambiance.
