Today's shoot featured the Qipao version of Iochi Mari from Blue Archive. This look infuses more classical Chinese aesthetics into the original character design: a white sleeveless modernized qipao finished with blue piped trims along the mandarin collar and side slits, accented by coordinated blue frog buttons. To enhance visual depth, the lower half is styled with over-the-knee White stockings. The wig is bright orange styled into twin tails, topped with plush animal ears and a golden halo headpiece. The makeup leans fresh and luminous, accented with blue contacts to emphasize her signature look. Meticulous care went into dressing the set: the background features a four-panel folding screen adorned with plum blossoms and soaring birds. To the left stands a tall carved wooden console with floral arrangements, subtly revealing the curves of a traditional stringed instrument beside it; to the right sits a white floor-standing paper lantern paired with blooming pink branches. A low wooden platform forms the foreground, blending classical heritage with modern 2D charm. For the first shot, I hugged a long orange plushie draped in a black cloak while striking a playful pose of lightly thumping it with closed eyes, conveying lighthearted cheer. To flatter the garment's contours, I angled my body slightly so the blue-and-white hemline draped naturally, keeping an eye on how light rendered the stockings' smooth weave. The second shot shows me holding an oiled-paper umbrella painted with ink wash and calligraphy while seated on the wooden platform. Crossing my legs required engaged core balance while keeping the stretch of the over-the-knee socks organic. The shoot was certainly challenging: because the wig is long, it frequently tangled around the animal ears or halo during repositioning, demanding constant maintenance. The form-fitting qipao needed realigning at the frog closures and waistline with every new pose. Prop angles had to be centimeter-precise—tilting the umbrella just slightly wrong could block key facial light or disrupt the composition. For instance, dialing in the closed-eye expression in the first frame took repeated takes to balance mock-hitting the plushie with affectionate reliance. The paper umbrella in the second frame had noticeable heft; to keep the handle from cutting across the collarbone and neckline, my wrist had to maintain a steady angle. Sitting on the wide wooden platform for long takes made knees ache, requiring pointed toes to sustain smooth calf lines. The photographer was wonderfully adept at posing direction and lighting control, ensuring pristine results. Marrying oriental grace with vibrant 2D anime charm, this project aimed for both aesthetic beauty and faithful recreation from fabric selection to pose choreography. The White stockings lent an airy visual elongation to the legs, and despite the physical exhaustion afterward, seeing the final texture made every bit of effort worthwhile.
