This time, I shot the gym uniform style of Iochi Mari from Blue Archive, which is commonly known as Mari (Track). Blessed with a beautifully clear, sunny day, I headed straight to the outdoor rooftop with the costume and props, beginning the creation of this sporty style cosplay look under the intense natural light.
In terms of the outfit combination, this gym uniform pays close attention to the blend of athletic feel and ACGN elements. The upper-body sporty outerwear jacket is the visual centerpiece, featuring a white base with dark blue paneled cuffs and yellow piping lines, making it distinctly layered and full of energy. The neckline features draping white fabric instead of a stiff bow tie, keeping it soft and casual. The lower half is paired with a dark blue pleated miniskirt that falls just above the knees, which, along with the pure white over-the-knee socks, elongates the leg proportions beautifully. On my feet, these black-and-white color-blocked thick-soled canvas shoes carry a hint of Japanese street style, matching the overall refreshing sporty vibe perfectly. The yellow ID lanyard and card holder hanging around my neck are also crucial details; the clear text patterns on the card holder add a pop of bright color to the overall outfit.
Regarding the hair, makeup, and accessories, I chose a long, straight golden wig with blunt bangs. Under the illumination of the sun, the hair strands present a translucent luster, and the fluffy furry beast ears on top of my head, combined with the white headband, look exceptionally well-behaved. The surrounding yellow-and-white ringed ornament and tiny white flowers make the overall head styling very full without looking monotonous. The makeup was kept as clean and clear as possible, and paired with blue colored contact lenses, I emphasized the eye contours to make my facial features more three-dimensional and natural in the intense light.
The shooting scene was specifically selected at a set of steps on an outdoor concrete rooftop. The cool gray tone of the concrete formed an excellent visual contrast with the warm color palette of the gym uniform. To achieve a natural, casual effect, I tried two different sitting poses. In Figure 1, I sit sideways on the edge of the steps with my legs slightly crossed, gently touching the neckline with one hand while looking diagonally upwards, feeling the refreshing chill brought by the breeze. In Figure 2, I sit cross-legged, directly pulling at the fabric of the jacket with both hands while zoning out slightly with my gaze, creating a lazy and slightly careless mood. The photographer used a medium-to-long telephoto lens to blur out the wire mesh background and the distant stairs, successfully focusing all attention on the figure, giving the frame an atmosphere of spacing out on a rooftop afternoon.
In the intense light environment, the sunlight cast sharp, well-defined shadows on the garments and the ground, and this contrast of light and dark brought a strong visual impact. The white mesh semi-transparent bag and a half-drunk bottle of mineral water placed beside me were casual props on set, but unexpectedly added a touch of slice-of-life realism once integrated into the frame, resembling a genuine state of resting during workout breaks.
Overall, the preparation for this Mari (Track) cosplay was quite meticulous, from the stitching of the athletic jacket and the silhouette of the necktie to the placement of the beast ears and hair accessories, doing our best to align with the original design. Spending nearly an hour outdoors in these clothes, although the sunlight was quite piercing, the sporty fabric was highly breathable and comfortable, preventing the styling from warping even with large ranges of movement. The shifting light and shadow during the photoshoot brought many pleasant surprises, and the final outdoor cosplay photography set carries a rich atmosphere, beautifully capturing the character's energetic presence.
