Inside the venue of the Shanghai Only Blue Archive event, crowds bustled with the enthusiastic energy of fellow fans everywhere—an offline event I had looked forward to for a long time. As a devoted Kokona fan, I prepared a complete Sunohara Kokona cosplay ensemble well in advance. I specially selected a silver-white wig with distinct black highlights, and the plush animal ears were made from a structured material that faithfully recreated the texture of the character illustration. For the outfit, I chose an off-the-shoulder design in black with white stripes, complete with iconic red ties, wide white sleeves, and a puffy white miniskirt revealing the legs. To balance walking around all day at the convention with looking great on camera, I skipped high heels in favor of chunky black platform shoes paired with white fluffy leg warmers around the ankles, boosting the cuteness while making moving around effortless.
As soon as I arrived at the venue, I headed straight for the merchandise booths in full 'haul mode.' My goals were crystal clear: primarily grabbing merch related to Kokona and Midori. Seeing the dazzling array of acrylic standees, badges, and plushies sent my sense of satisfaction skyrocketing. I successfully obtained the much-coveted Kokona KT board—a life-sized standee even taller than me! While lugging it around for photos was a bit heavy, the sense of accomplishment from bringing my beloved character into reality completely outweighed the exhaustion. Of course, the trip wasn't without a tiny bit of envy: there was an eye-catching, one-off sample Kokona hand puppet at the venue with maxed-out softness and exquisite craftsmanship. I spent the whole time secretly envying the fan who managed to get it—that bittersweet longing is probably a universal sentiment among convention merch hunters.
Beyond shopping, the serendipitous encounters were wonderfully delightful. Outside the venue, we met a super friendly Blue Archive Itasha owner. The car's side mirrors and doors were wrapped in Kokona-themed decals, and the interior featured rich wine-red leather seats. Placing my Kokona plushie on the passenger seat created an utterly healing scene. The owner warmly chatted with us about the process of customizing the Itasha and kindly allowed us to take photos with the car, and this cross-medium interaction made the offline experience all the richer.
I also had an absolute blast with the friends who came along. We shared our merch hauls, posed for photos at various booths, and discussed the event's exclusive bonus items and product designs. Their company filled the entire convention with endless laughter. This event not only made up for the regret of previously only watching others' event reports online, but also deeply healed everyday stress. Yet as the event wrapped up in the evening, holding my haul and the completed event pamphlet, a strong wave of post-event blues inevitably washed over me. This post-con withdrawal is so real, and perhaps only browsing through the photos taken today on my phone or holding the Kokona plushie can gently soothe that lingering emptiness.
Overall, this Shanghai Only Blue Archive gathering was a completely fulfilling, joy-filled offline celebration. From the atmosphere and merch quality to the wonderful people and encounters, every moment made the trip worthwhile. I'm already quietly looking forward to the next offline event!
