Today, I'm sharing the behind-the-scenes details of this indoor pool-themed photoshoot. Summer fun is naturally incomplete without water, but considering the outdoor heat and intense sun, opting for an indoor studio shoot is a high-yield choice for great shots. To match the refreshing summer vibe, the overall look combined Pink twin tails with a deep blue one-piece swimsuit. The ruffled trims along the sides of the swimsuit and the strawberry tag on the chest added playful details, creating an eye-catching visual contrast with the blue and pink palette.
Because the shoot involved frequent contact with water, hair and makeup required rigorous waterproofing. Base and eye makeup were swapped for waterproof and sweatproof formulas, while the pink wig was styled and set before touching the water to prevent it from tangling or frizzing when wet. The pool was a shallow basin paved with blue mosaic tiles, set against a backdrop featuring a blue wooden doorframe, folding beach chairs, a parasol, and surfboard models. The blue-and-white striped chair fabric echoed the backdrop nicely, while a white plush rug and a full row of sunflowers added rich color depth to the scene.
The shooting process was actually much more demanding than it looks. Sitting in an inflatable swim ring isn't as leisurely as one might imagine; despite water buoyancy, keeping balance and maintaining an elegant pose required constant core engagement. For the moment capturing the water splash, I repeated the leg lift and kicking motion about a dozen times to freeze that perfect arc. Water resistance is considerable, leaving my arms and legs sore after a few rounds. Leaning against the ring while raising one leg placed high demands on my center of gravity; the photographer shot from a lower angle to elongate leg lines while locking visual focus onto the subject. The two-tone blue and pink swim ring and beach ball served as great atmospheric props that also helped ease tension in front of the lens.
Here are a few quick tips from shooting in an indoor pool. First is safety: wet tiles become extremely slippery, so move slowly and plant every step firmly along the edge. Second is water temperature: despite being indoors, soaking for long periods still chills the body, making a bath towel essential between takes to stay warm. Lastly, lighting: the water surface reflects strongly, requiring the photographer to adjust light angles flexibly and use softboxes to illuminate the face without harsh shadows. With subtle adjustments to highlights and shadows in post-processing, a luminous summer atmosphere comes right through. I really love capturing the pure joy of playing in water without enduring outdoor sweltering heat, and I look forward to the next shoot.
