Braving the 35-degree high temperature and sunlight so intense that it was hard to keep my eyes open, we completed this photoshoot by this outdoor pool filled with fine white sand and thatched sun umbrellas. Choosing this natural tropical open-air space was precisely because we wanted to break away from the rigid light and shadow of indoor studios, using the most authentic scorching sun and breeze to recreate the character's laziness and agility during summer holidays. For this look, the core is the white one-piece swimsuit with a pleated skirt hem, paired with a red sailor collar and a highly eye-catching bright yellow neckerchief. Against the background of the azure sky and deep green palm trees, this high-contrast red, white, and yellow color scheme immediately pops out.
To fit the holiday theme, we specially brought a silver vintage handheld camcorder as a shooting prop, which was also a fun element in this styling. Holding it in hand allows me to act like a tourist casually recording the scenery, and lifting it above my head can also utilize the camera body's reflection to adjust facial lighting, making the skin look very clear and fair without needing an extra reflector. As for this hairstyle, I really spent a long time managing the wig before heading out. Long, straight silver-white hair paired with a high side ponytail is very prone to looking frizzy under intense outdoor light. Fortunately, although the wind was strong today, the overall texture maintained a good state.
It's actually quite difficult to express that very relaxed, unforced body feeling during a shoot. For instance, the pose in Figure 1, kneeling with one knee on a wooden striped chair, required maintaining body balance while focusing my gaze as my hands naturally lifted. During this time, the photographer kept quickly pressing the shutter, capturing many moments before selecting a few satisfying ones. The one-legged standing action in Figure 4 was also very challenging, requiring close attention to tightening the core to maintain the extension of the leg and hand lines in the frame without appearing stiff. The feeling of walking barefoot on the sandy ground was very real, and the soles of my feet felt a bit hot from being baked by the sun, which perfectly fit the immersion of this summer outing.
Regarding the makeup part, I also lightened the load. Because it was under pure natural light, overly heavy base makeup would look unnaturally white and greasy, so I only did light concealment and setting. The eye makeup deliberately toned down the colors, focusing heavily on the curl and definition of the eyelashes. Paired with blue colored contact lenses, it made the gaze look clearer and deeper. The overall styling doesn't need too many complex embellishments, just restoring the clean and pure temperament of the 2D character itself is enough. In fact, outdoor shoots rely heavily on the cooperation of weather and light. Today's environment with sparse clouds and unobstructed sunlight, though challenging the photographer's light control ability, delivered a surprising color saturation. The blue of the sky, the green of the leaves, and the white of the skirt all carry a very warm frame texture.
After finishing this set of photos, just cleaning up the sand that got between my toes took a lot of time back home, but looking at these frozen frames, I feel all the hard work was completely worth it. Using this kind of vintage swimsuit combination is not only refreshing and age-reducing, but under the intense Japanese-style high-saturation color grading, it unexpectedly has a very inclusive atmosphere, making it perfect for trying out different outdoor shoot locations. Opening the flip screen of the camcorder and coordinating it with a pose that half-blocks the sunlight makes the overall frame look more narratively tense, which is considered a little trick I figured out during the shooting process. This piece of work did not rely excessively on cosplay post-processing, but preserved as much as possible the highlights and shadows cast by the light on the body in the original shots, making the contours of the limbs more three-dimensional and natural, with a very solid texture.
