Having organized the photos from the last indoor shoot, today I'm sharing this indoor daily-style Zenless Zone Zero Sweety cosplay look. The overall idea was to create a non-studio atmosphere where the character's outfit is naturally showcased in a home environment. Therefore, instead of complex sets or heavy props, I used simple wooden floors and everyday furniture as the background, combined with natural light and a touch of side-front fill light, hoping to clearly present the fabric details and color structure of the costume itself.
Talking first about the design of this costume, the biggest highlight lies in the modified Qipao outfit with black and red color-blocking on the upper body. The red area covers the neckline and the core section of the chest, with golden cloud patterns superimposed on the solid-colored fabric, which gives a traditional Chinese vibe while adding a modern touch thanks to the geometric metal frog buttons. These frog buttons are not traditional symmetrical styles, but rather a combination of lines with subtle mechanical details, adding a sleek 2D sharpness to the retro foundation of the top. The lower body features a black short skirt with a high slit, a design that allows the leg line to stretch more fully in front of the lens. In particular, the black strap wrapped around the thigh visually divides the leg area, making the lines look firmer and sharper.
The accessories were also meticulously coordinated. The sunglasses with brownish lenses on top of the head and the small ahoge hair on top gave the character a casual, unrestrained, and lazy temperament. The black plush arm cuffs on the wrists enhance the outfit's visual layering and add a touch of combat-style flair, while the brass metal bell suspended by a red cord at the waist serves as a wonderful accent for the whole ensemble. When walking or adjusting postures, although the bell doesn't make much noise, as one of the visual centerpieces, it anchors the waist area nicely. The fan with a fireworks pattern held in the left hand forms a color echo with the short golden hair and acts as a hand prop that enriches the visual composition.
As for hair and makeup, the light blonde wig was subtly styled; the gentle curve at the ends and the fluffiness on top reveal a great sheen under the lighting. The purple contact lenses soften the extreme brightness of the wig under warm-toned light, making the eyes look spirited yet cool. The makeup was kept as minimal as possible, focusing on extending the eye makeup and subtle cheek accents to achieve a balance between everyday simplicity and refinement—neither overly dramatic nor failing to highlight the character's vibe.
Regarding environmental lighting, a front-side indoor lighting setup was used this time. The light source struck from the top right of the character, making the facial contours very distinct while leaving natural shadows around the collarbones and chest lapel, enhancing the three-dimensional depth of the costume. In a home environment, background details like the blue-gray cat bed on the floor and the small black round table nearby make the character feel much more vivid. During the shoot, I didn't deliberately chase heavy backlighting or complex color filters, but preserved the raw photo's clean and bright tones, which fully restored the high contrast among the three main colors: black, red, and gold.
During the shoot, I hoped to capture a natural and relaxed expression. Since this outfit inherently carries a dynamic casualness, posing too rigidly would feel out of place. Therefore, I tried angles with a slight body turn, letting the sightline follow the slitted skirt down to the thigh strap to create a vertical line feel, which both elongates proportions and adds dynamic movement to the picture. When using the fan as a prop, I naturally held it in front of my chest or to the side, interlacing with background light and shadow to create compositional layering. Particularly in this chosen front-facing snapshot, although it avoids overly forced poses, both expression and body language are in a very relaxed state, which is precisely the effect I wanted.
Besides taking good photos, post-processing is also a crucial part. When editing this set of photos, I intentionally set the color tone within a brighter, lower-contrast range, keeping highlights as transparent as possible without crushing them, giving the overall picture an even soft-light effect. Color saturation was not overly adjusted because the contrast between red and black on the costume was already strong enough; over-saturating would make the wig and skin tone look unnatural, so my focus was more on restoring skin texture and subtle fabric contrast.
Cosplay in such everyday settings actually tests one's ability to utilize daily items; sometimes just a chair or a white wall can present completely different visual effects if angles and light proportions are well managed. In the final selected photo, the composition is full without the subject being pushed to the edge, and the fan serves as a visual guide forming a comfortable triangular structure in the top right corner, matching the overall atmosphere with the character's personality and temperament very harmoniously.
In the process of cosplay, the hardest part is perhaps balancing the relationship between character traits and one's authentic state. The Zenless Zone Zero Sweety attempted this time has many clever design details in her costume that need to be demonstrated through poses and control over details. For instance, the Qipao outfit has a very form-fitting cut, requiring constant attention to posture to fill out the clothing's lines, while simultaneously maintaining a relaxed facial expression to give off an effortless impression. This mutual adaptation between body and clothing often requires taking many shots to reach the most natural state.
Looking back at the finished photos after the shoot, I feel that character restoration under this quiet home atmosphere offers another unique flavor. Without overly fancy special effects or grand scenes, simply utilizing lighting and props effectively can showcase unique charm within a limited space.
