Shooting a group cosplay photoshoot for Today's MENU for EMIYA Family today, the atmosphere inside the Japanese room was simply unmatched. Sunlight filtered through the wooden lattice windows and spilled over the tatami mats with just the right gentleness. With over a dozen people packed into this space, positioning alone went through multiple rounds of adjustments. To create visual layering in the frame, we adopted a triangular composition. My portrayal of Tohsaka Rin was placed in the immediate foreground with my back turned to the camera, hands on my hips and right hand pointed straight ahead. This gesture not only guided the viewers' gaze toward Sakura, Illya, and Taiga seated around the low table, but also injected a touch of theatrical tension. Standing on the left were Archer, Gilgamesh, Kuzuki, and Shirou cosplay, holding uchiwa round fans or cups while maintaining their characters' signature stances, making the scene look like an ongoing lively family gathering.

Speaking of the cosplay attire, the red long-sleeved top and black pleated skirt I wore today, paired with black stockings Stockings cosplay, stood out remarkably against the warm-toned tatami surroundings. The dishes and canned beverages laid out on the table were all genuine props; Lancer and Caster sat close together, their relaxed handling of chopsticks feeling entirely organic. To faithfully capture that slice-of-life dynamic laced with subtle character relationships from the original work, everyone continuously discussed micro-expressions and gaze directions between takes. For instance, Saber cosplay sat at the far right edge, where her light green top balanced the frame's visual weight, while Archer on the far left with his uchiwa fan perfectly projected that reluctant yet obligatorily present aura on camera.

The technical difficulty of the shoot was actually far greater than anticipated. Because of the large cast and uneven light distribution, the assistant photographer constantly adjusted reflector angles to ensure sufficient illumination reached Gilgamesh and Shirou in the back row without overexposing the foreground figures. Due to the limited space of the tatami room, a wide-angle lens was used to accommodate everyone, which meant figures on the periphery were prone to perspective distortion; the photographer repeatedly reminded Caster and Saber along the edges to lean subtly inward toward the center. Sustaining seiza kneeling and standing postures for hours tested everyone's endurance, wigs began to lose shape under the heat, and during breaks, everyone scrambled to touch up makeup and straighten out costumes.

From early preparation to the finished shots, this group shoot experience was truly extraordinary. Each participant breathed the soul of their character into the set: Illya's vivacity, Sakura's gentle warmth, and Tohsaka Rin's iconic tsundere were brought to life completely within this compact tatami room. This brand of slice-of-life shoot requires no exaggerated special effects, relying entirely on genuine interactions between cosplayers and authentic environmental staging. Though everyone has their own busy lives, coming together to strive for the exact same frame was immensely meaningful in itself. Leaving behind our own cosplay memories inside such a warm, everyday slice-of-life setting was an exceptionally precious experience.
