Releasing this set of finished Ye Shunguang photos today to share some behind-the-scenes details of the shoot.
The costume features a white base with ink wash cloud patterns, paired with a black waist cincher. Its tailored fit cleanly delineates the body's natural contours. The cutout sleeve covers on the arms and the long red-and-white streamers are the primary visual highlights, standing out brilliantly under studio lights. For the wig, I went with a silver-white base finished with a soft pink-orange gradient dip-dye at the tips, accented just right by the white hair bun and red head ornaments. To embody the character's aura, I wore red colored contacts and leaned into crimson tones for the eye makeup, drawing sharp, winged-up eyeliner.
The longsword prop in my hands carries solid heft, featuring rippling wave patterns along the blade that demanded noticeable arm strength when holding and swinging it. During the shoot, the photographer had me sit atop a wooden daybed cushioned with a plush fleece mat, with one knee bent and raised while the other leg draped down naturally. This pose not only showcased the leg contours accentuated by the red-patterned stockings cosplay and high heels, but also beautifully highlighted the garment's side silhouette and midriff cutouts. In terms of facial control, I strove for a relaxed yet piercing gaze that, combined with the raised arm, forged a serene yet lethal presence.
For the set design, a screen painted with bamboo leaves formed the backdrop, flanked by a Go table and blue-and-white porcelain vases, while blurred branches of red plum blossoms adorned the foreground—all working together to evoke a refined ancient style photography charm that echoed the costume effortlessly. Throughout the session, the long ribbons and wide hem occasionally tangled and required frequent smoothing, and the wig needed constant volume checks to prevent it from flattening or obscuring my face. Special thanks to the photographer, Antiao Xiaozi, for catching these frames: the lighting was pristine, flawlessly documenting the fabric textures and spatial depth of the set.
