[Feixiao cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail Xianzhou Luofu Mid-Autumn Ensemble

Our Mid-Autumn outdoor shoot for the Xianzhou Alliance has finally produced finished photos. For this ensemble shoot, we began preparations a month in advance, pouring immense effort into every phase from location scouting to wardrobe coordination. Feixiao's costume is exceptionally intricate; with various metallic ornaments, leather straps, and multi-layered cummerbunds, putting it on alone is virtually impossible, and wearing it requires constant posture awareness. I reinforced the fox ears on the wig in advance with both hairpins and hairspray, as strong outdoor winds could easily dislodge them and compromise the silhouette. The location was set in a traditional courtyard featuring dark timber doors with geometric lattice windows and carved golden inscriptions on pillars, perfectly embodying the setting of Xianzhou Luofu.

The weather was gorgeous that day, which also meant intense, glaring sunlight, and the stone balustrades were scorching hot. To achieve the best composition, we had to sit on the railings or lean against the pillars. As Feixiao, I aimed to convey an aura that was composed yet overwhelmingly commanding. Sitting on the stone balustrade required a straight back and a steady center of gravity with crossed legs, all while minding the drape of the long coat hem to avoid bunched-up fabric looking bulky. Tingyun's pink wig looked incredible under the sunlight, and the metallic sheen of her hair accessories stood out prominently; her pairing of white tights with heeled booties added rich visual layering. When standing side by side, because each character featured distinct palettes, we carefully calibrated our blocking so the contrasting blue, white, pink, and purple color blocks harmonized cleanly without visual clash.

Coordinating a group shoot is always the hardest part. Blocking, eyelines, and body language across nine people required constant fine-tuning to ensure nobody blocked anyone else while keeping everyone in optimal framing. Sometimes, to catch a gentle breeze or a passing cloud shadow, the entire cast had to freeze in place for minutes at a time. During these pauses, everyone helped adjust garments, touch up makeup, or pass around water. Wearing gloves meant extra care was needed whenever handling props or adjusting accessories. Tingyun's outfit featured extensive embroidery and tassels; while framing, I paid close attention to make sure these details weren't obscured, as they are the very soul of the character's design. In terms of camera gear, our photographer used medium-telephoto lenses to compress space, giving the architectural background a grand, classical weight while crisply capturing the textures of the fabrics.

Gathering on the Xianzhou Luofu for the Mid-Autumn Festival naturally carried a profound sense of homecoming. For Trailblazers, gathering so many fellow enthusiasts in the real world, donning these ornate costumes, and preserving group memories before ancient architecture is its own form of reunion. Between takes, everyone huddled together discussing game lore, sharing funny prep stories, or venting about braving the heat in heavy layers. Despite physical exhaustion, every click of the shutter brought everyone right back into character. This outdoor session was more than just completing a cosplay shoot—it was a cherished reunion among friends. What everyone brought before the camera was not merely character appearance, but an authentic love for the work itself. Though exhausting, seeing the final photos made every drop of sweat a tangible, treasured memory.
